Ordered their main, and it looks nothing like the photo (see pics) Looks like it was cooked in a school canteen, with mushy rice, and the salmon was not even hot and there’s no taste at all.. For the price $19.90 before gst and service charge paid, totally not worth. Will not be back again. Hope the management can do something about their food, so disappointing as it was my first time visiting and this cafe was highly raved.
A Place Made for Sitting Down and Chatting
It’s a nice spacious area at one end of the mall. Atmosphere feels nice with the right kind of furniture.
Service was great. Ordering was pleasant. The person taking the order was accurate, patient and willing to explain certain things I was not aware of.
There is table service at this place.
Drinks were expensive but to be expected in this kind of a location and setting. Drinks were decent but not spectacular.
Atmosphere was very pleasant - well spaced out tables, brightly lit with nice glasses.
Overall a great place to have a nice chat with friends.
I’d like to share my recent experience at Matchaya, which unfortunately left much to be desired — particularly due to the service we received from a server named Wei Ping.
When we walked in, the café wasn’t busy at all, so there was no reason for anyone to be rushed or inattentive. Wei Ping greeted us with a hello, but then abruptly tossed the menus onto the table and said, “You can order at the counter,” without offering any further explanation or courtesy.
When I went up to place our order, I was informed that the item I wanted wasn’t available. I politely mentioned that it would have been helpful to be informed earlier at the table. Her response? A smirk, followed by, “No, we have a lot of things on the menu. You can order anything else.”
That exchange was already disappointing, but the experience got worse. She got our order wrong. And when we pointed it out, instead of apologizing or offering to make things right — which is standard in any decent service setting — she smirked again and said, “If you want the other item that was missing, please come pay for it at the till, and we’ll give it to you.”
As an executive chef with over 30 years in the F&B industry, I fully understand how demanding this line of work can be. But I also know that respect, attentiveness, and a genuine attitude go a long way — especially when it comes to service. If someone finds it difficult to treat guests with basic courtesy, then perhaps hospitality isn't the right fit. This experience was not only disappointing, it reflects poorly on the brand and on all the hardworking professionals in our industry who take pride in what they do.
Love their tea packaging. Bought the Momo Sencha and the Lavender Yuzu Houjicha. Momo Sencha tea leaves smell so good. Next time will try their matcha drinks on a Sat as I have low tolerance on caffeine. I had the cold chocolate which was delicious and so was the cake.
Nice foodcourt, Ok range of foods, the pork cutlet deal at Kimukatsu is decent. Seating is easy as you have to order first then they will direct you to a table.
Good variety of stores in this food court located at the basement Takashimaya. There are many cuisines offered, from Chinese to Japanese to Western to Korean and many more!
Ordered the chicken chop from the Western store and was pleasantly surprised! The chicken was juicy and tasty, and best of all, very affordable! :)
Highly recommend to anyone nearby and would most definitely come back again!
Located in the heart of Orchard, Takashimaya Food Village offers a diverse lineup of stalls, quality dishes, and surprisingly reasonable prices for the area. Over time, I’ve noticed a few long-standing favorites close and new concepts pop up—a testament to its evolving food scene. Here’s a breakdown of some highlights (and lowlights) from my recent visits:
⸻
Western Gourmet
Rating: 4.5 / 5.0
A must-visit for classic Western fare. The menu boasts a wide variety—from steaks and pastas to sandwiches—each plate consistently well-executed. Portion sizes are generous, and the flavors are reliably satisfying.
⸻
Formosa Delights
Rating: 4.5 / 5.0
Their ban mian shines with a rich, flavorful broth and a generous heap of minced meat. Having served Orchard diners for years, they’ve clearly perfected their recipe.
⸻
RedRing Treasures
Rating: 4.0 / 5.0
Their springy egg noodles pair beautifully with either teriyaki chicken or a crispy chicken cutlet. On occasion, the chicken has tasted like it was recently defrosted, but overall it’s still a solid choice.
⸻
Thai Express
Rating: 3.0 / 5.0
Known for its mainstream Thai menu, this outlet feels like a training ground for new staff. Dishes are affordable, but my pad Thai was disappointingly chewy—far from the authentic texture I expected.
⸻
Duku Desserts
Rating: 3.5 / 5.0
Their mango pomelo dessert is generous on nata de coco and mango puree, though the fruit paste lacks a natural freshness—and at $7.90, it skews toward the pricey side.
⸻
Hometown BBQ
Rating: 4.0 / 5.0
This stall stands out for its creative take on local-style BBQ. Many of their dishes are unique and not commonly found in other food courts, making it a refreshing option. Their signature sambal chilli paste adds a bold, appetizing kick to every plate.
Overall Verdict: Takashimaya Food Village remains a convenient Orchard destination with plenty of solid options (Western Gourmet and Formosa Delights stand out). A few stalls could tighten up consistency, but there’s enough variety here to satisfy most cravings.
Offering a wide variety of delicious dishes to choose from. While finding a seat can be challenging, it’s a great spot to take a break and enjoy lunch before continuing with your activities.
