After a long trip to India, I was really craving something different, and Japanese cuisine felt like the perfect way to ease back in. On a whim, I made a last-minute reservation at this tiny spot with fewer than 15 seats. Somehow, I managed to grab the last two seats, which felt like a bit of luck on my side. The focus here is on teppanyaki, and honestly, the oyster fried rice was the perfect way to satisfy my carb cravings. The fried chicken gizzards were a surprise hit, especially when paired with sake. And the teppanyaki wagyu beef outskirts, garlic shrimps and Hokkaido Yongenton pork belly? Absolutely divine. They had a great selection of fresh oysters from Japan, Ireland, the USA, and New Zealand, so I couldn’t resist trying a few. I started with the scallop carpaccio topped with ikura, which was super refreshing, and the grilled eel with pickles added the perfect touch. One unexpected delight was the fig butter with crackers—it was so indulgent that I couldn’t stop myself from finishing it, even though I knew I should! We couldn’t resist ordering more, so the crab meat cream croquettes made their way to the table. I’m pretty sure I could have kept going with the sake, which was fantastic throughout the meal. And of course, I had to have the uni—there’s just no way I could visit a Japanese restaurant and not indulge. They served it in this beautiful multi-layered presentation, wrapped in seaweed, and the best part was devouring it in one bite. The night felt complete with such a great variety of sake and a warm, attentive host. It was the perfect first meal back!

Good food and the oysters are so fresh! I do feel the prices are pretty high for the quality of the food but I still enjoyed most of the dishes. Oyster garlic fried rice was 👍👍👍

Had a wonderful experience at Karachi Sushi Bar. The service is warm and welcoming, and the chef is very friendly, taking time to chat and share recommendations. The intimate atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to enjoy quality sushi in a relaxed setting.

Firstly, service by Lavin was top class, until the place got busy. Chef Fuji doesn’t speak much English, so it was difficult to communicate. Serving fresh fish is a given. What differentiates a better sushi is the way the rice is cooked. And here at Katachi, we were unimpressed. Rice was sticky, a common find at mainstream sushi joints. The place is at the front row of ground floor shops facing Orchard Road, in case you have difficulty finding the place. The mall’s store numbering system is a mess.

I visit sushi restaurants quite often, but this was the first time a chef served everything oriented for a left-handed guest. As a left-hander, I was genuinely delighted by this thoughtful gesture. The attention to detail and hospitality made the experience truly special. Thank you for the wonderful service — I’ll definitely be coming back!

I'm not sure what to feel about this place, on one hand, the food was amazing and the sushi chef was skilled (I think he is local), but on the other hand, the atmosphere was totally not as I expected. As we arrived early and waited outside, the female phillipino staff saw us and yet did not ask us to come in. When we sat down, she seemed inexperienced, broke a cup, and the chef was telling her off infront of us. Saying how she didn't know how to operate anything and told us she was covering for someone else's shift. During the meal, there were some comments from her about how the usual staff would play Japanese music, and she found it boring? The sushi chef made some offhand comments about Japanese people as well. It was such a jarring experience. I wanted a relaxing birthday dinner. Good meal, but appalling experience.

overall, I feel this place is good value for money (the prices are nett) and you get what you pay for, nothing exceptional. in my situation, service from the female service staff was top notch, always topping up tea and checking in. the chef on duty, is a local chef, full respect, and not the issue. can tell he's not the engaging type, was not talkative, which was also not the issue, but as he served the food, he did not share any emotions like he was just doing a job. nor did he explain what we were eating. I asked him to explain the fishes In the sashimi, which would have been an indication that I was very interested in knowing what I was eating. but for the remaining of course, he did not explain a single sushi he served. I did not bother to further engage him, why need to " chase " him? Overall fish was hit and miss in terms of freshness. My bigger question mark was the order of the fish served. Otoro with a house special shoyu was served as the 1st piece, rich and oily fish not the issue, I didn't like the house shoyu - it hit me right in the face, and sweetness was also the first note and overall imbalanced and did not match the oily fish imho. my least fave was the anago, which was fishy (not good) and did not have any sauce (this one I felt should have some sauce at least to mask the offnotes). special shoutout to the miso soup, it tasted very rich with the prawn head, perhaps with some flavour aid but nonetheless was comforting bowl to end the course.

Hard to find on the corner outside without numbers. Fantastic sushi and service! Lavine will make sure you have a wonderful experience! Best sushi I have found in orchard at that price. Definitely book ahead for weekends and larger groups as it is small.

The sushi set was truly delightful, with each piece showcasing freshness and balance. The uni stood out with its rich, creamy texture, while the tuna was exceptionally fresh and flavorful. Every bite felt carefully crafted. A memorable and satisfying dining experience overall.

Lavin was a great host! We enjoyed ourselves! The omakase set was affordable and importantly fresh and amazing! Had to say better than some of the omakase I had in Japan! Atmosphere was great as well and Lavin ensured that we were having a great time! She was accomodating and always check in on us 👍 Strongly recommended! Will come again! 👍
