Took over the previous Japanese restuarant, Biseryu.

Felt abit cheated when their signature is the smashed chicken yet you have to top up $1.20 for the chicken 🤨 But I could understand why it’s their signature, the chicken was freshly fried, tender and juicy. 👍🏼 THE CHILLI THO it’s burning hot. Suggest to ask for the chilli to be separated! Else you could opt for the salted egg sauce which my friends said was good too.

We ordered kaisen don, premium kaisen don and century egg tofu. Sashimi was fresh and portions were generous. Rice was perfectly cooked with the right amount of vinegar. We were amazed with the lady who is serving all the tables. Despite having to manage multiple tasks such as serving food, clearing tables, manage incoming diners etc, she was attentive and promptly top up our green tea whenever it is half full. This restaurant has limited seats so please make reservation in advance and be prepared to wait for your food. It was our second visit and we will be back again.

Age Ye (楊屋) is a casual Japanese eatery that boasts an offering of sashimi, donburi, chirashi and Japanese favourites. There is a photo placed at the restaurant entrance revealing its chef had prepared meals for the late former Singapore prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew and his wife. Being a small and cosy 18-seater restaurant, it is recommended to make a dining reservation via WhatsApp. I had arrived at 12 noon on a Saturday for my lunch. The place was fully booked which I had observed several walk-in customers being turned away. Although there were two chefs preparing the dishes, there was a wait for the food. I had ordered a total of eight dishes for my group of three. The entire dining experience took 1.5hrs, which was attributed to the food preparation time. My meal included the following items: 1. Agedashi Tofu - $6 2. Pitan Tofu - $4.50 3. Tako Wasabi - $5 4. Hotate Sashimi (Two) - $28 5. Salmon Sushi (Three) - $6 6. Cheese Mentai Maki - $18 7. Ebi Tempura - $18 8. Yasai Don - $12 9. Japanese Tea (Three) - $6 The total bill costs $113.85. There is no GST, though a 10% service fee is applicable. I am pleased the wait staff had been diligently refilling my hot tea. The food is worth the wait and with its affordable price, I would love to patronise Age Ya again!

After trying to walk in countless times to no avail, I finally made a reservation at Age-Ya. It's a small, bustling spot, and it's clear why it's so popular. A quick heads-up on the ambiance: the restaurant is cozy, and on the day I visited, the air conditioning wasn't working optimally. We were at the counter right in front of the steamer, which made it quite warm. You can see the chef working at full speed, but it's a busy place, so they're definitely hustling to keep up with the crowd. That said, the food more than made up for everything. We genuinely loved every single dish we ordered. The Hana Bara Premium was a showstopper—almost too pretty to eat, with gorgeous, vibrant toppings. The tempura was perfectly executed: incredibly light and crispy, with no greasy feeling at all. Another standout was the Kinoko Tofu, which was unique and packed with flavour. But the biggest surprise? The rice. It was so tasty all on its own that I couldn't stop eating it. It’s rare for the rice itself to be such a memorable part of the meal, but it was outstanding.

Dropped by Age Ya for a late lunch and there was still a queue. It's definitely important to make a reservation via Whatsapp. For starters, I got the Kinoko Tofu ($8) which was so good. I wasn't sure if there was really tofu, but it was certainly shaped like one. Once I dug in, all I saw were slices of shitake mushroom. This is such a unique dish, and the broth that it comes in makes for a good start to your meal. I also got the Yasai Tempura ($11) which was pretty decent. It's a mixed bag for this dish - the eggplant could have been more firm, but the lotus root had a good bite to it. I was quite surprised to find yam as one of the eight vegetables as that's not something one would usually find in a Japanese restaurant in Singapore. The highlight for me is the Hana Bara Don ($23) which can be seen all over social media. You have two boxes, the first contains cubes of fresh sashimi while the other box contains the special sushi rice with cubes of tamago. I loved how fresh the fish is and the tastiness of the accompanying rice. Would highly recommend this place!

Checked out this gem for a delightful Hana Bara Don ! The colorful array of fresh sashimi, bursting with flavors, was a feast for the eyes and the palate. Every bite was a taste of the ocean. The rice was perfectly seasoned, too! The ambiance was cozy and the service was attentive. Perfect for a chill meal with friends or a solo treat. Remember to make appointment
