Age Ya brings Japanese-style grilled skewer dining to Far East Plaza, specializing in the yakitori and kushiyaki traditions that emphasize simple preparation techniques allowing quality ingredients to shine. This focus on grilled items distinguishes the restaurant from sushi-focused or ramen-heavy Japanese establishments, appealing to diners seeking the smoky, savory flavors developed through proper grilling techniques and strategic seasoning.
The menu centers on various skewered items including chicken parts, vegetables, seafood, and other proteins grilled over high heat and typically seasoned with either salt or tare (sweet soy-based sauce). Traditional yakitori encompasses specific chicken parts beyond standard breast and thigh meat, including skin, cartilage, hearts, and livers that offer varied textures and flavors. The grilling process requires careful attention to achieve proper char while maintaining moisture and developing the slightly crispy exterior that defines well-executed yakitori.
Age Ya operates during lunch and dinner periods, though the grilled skewer format particularly suits evening dining and casual drinking occasions. The restaurant accommodates both quick lunches and more leisurely evening meals, with à la carte ordering allowing customers to control portions and costs. Japanese beers and sake complement the grilled items. Pricing reflects the specialized focus and location while remaining accessible for regular visits rather than special occasions only.

Hana Bara Don would be the star dish. Fresh, melts in mouth fish. Tempura Mori, Agedashi Tofu, Chawanmushi and wrapped sushi are great too. Reservation highly recommended or you’ll be turn away or be prepared to wait for at least an hour as it’s a small joint. Food are prepared upon order. Made reservation via Instagram.

After trying to walk in countless times to no avail, I finally made a reservation at Age-Ya. It's a small, bustling spot, and it's clear why it's so popular.
A quick heads-up on the ambiance: the restaurant is cozy, and on the day I visited, the air conditioning wasn't working optimally. We were at the counter right in front of the steamer, which made it quite warm. You can see the chef working at full speed, but it's a busy place, so they're definitely hustling to keep up with the crowd.
That said, the food more than made up for everything. We genuinely loved every single dish we ordered.
The Hana Bara Premium was a showstopper—almost too pretty to eat, with gorgeous, vibrant toppings. The tempura was perfectly executed: incredibly light and crispy, with no greasy feeling at all. Another standout was the Kinoko Tofu, which was unique and packed with flavour.
But the biggest surprise? The rice. It was so tasty all on its own that I couldn't stop eating it. It’s rare for the rice itself to be such a memorable part of the meal, but it was outstanding.

We ordered kaisen don, premium kaisen don and century egg tofu. Sashimi was fresh and portions were generous. Rice was perfectly cooked with the right amount of vinegar. We were amazed with the lady who is serving all the tables. Despite having to manage multiple tasks such as serving food, clearing tables, manage incoming diners etc, she was attentive and promptly top up our green tea whenever it is half full. This restaurant has limited seats so please make reservation in advance and be prepared to wait for your food. It was our second visit and we will be back again.

I have been coming here for almost 2 years. Food is great and service is good. But for a small restaurant and its limited seats.. one really have to call in advance to book their seats and dont bother waiting because who will rush over a nice Japanese meal.
So to those who waited or to those were told its full even when it seems empty, it is because of the grace of the owner to allow advance booking, otherwise we were all be disappointed or queuing wasting precious time. Therefore book your table early and enjoy your time there.
Looking forward to my visit this week again..

Definitely recommend to reserve a table before dining as the queue gets really long once it opens.
Great place with excellent found made on the spot and served fresh and crispy! Love the tempura, it is so crispy and light without being heavy and totally recommend everyone who comes to eat to order a plate! The agedashi tofu was also salty, smooth and piping hot at first making it savoury and flavourful.
The soft shell crab, the california roll, the making and the kaisen don was the best I ever tasted with great nigita rice and salty shavings. No words could describe how good the food was.
