Honestly a great place to start learning Japanese. I’ve never met a single bad teacher in Ikoma, all of them are so fun, friendly and encouraging in their own ways. They also allow you to switch to another class for a week if your schedule doesn’t align with your usual class, else they also provide 30 mins of makeup lesson before the next class, which is a really nice touch to help with your learning.

Positive Instructor, Challenging Peer Dynamics I’ve been attending full-time classes here, and the sensei is genuinely encouraging, fostering a supportive and motivating learning environment. However, during a recent session, I was openly called “煩い” (annoying/noisy) by a classmate—an adult in their 30s—simply for participating actively in discussions. While the quality of instruction is excellent, the lack of mutual respect from peers (especially from someone old enough to model maturity) was disappointing. If you thrive on engagement and can tolerate occasional negativity from fellow students, this place might still work for you. That said, I hope the school takes steps to address peer interactions, such as promoting respectful communication guidelines, to ensure a truly inclusive space for all learners.

Studied basic and ikoma and then I stopped for a few years. Went back joining their pre advance class and it was pretty fun. What I would like to highlight here is the JLPT N3 Prep course which I participated in. It had truly tackled the contents well and you’re bound to pass with good grades if you take the prep course seriously. If I’m ever taking N2, I’ll definitely take the N2 prep course. Cheers to all the teachers for making my Japanese language learning journey such a fun and memorable one. 😊 Special shoutout: Nagai Sensei, Sugitate Sensei and Uehara Sensei 😊

Studied here for close to 5 years (Japanese class, once-a-week), under 3 different teachers. All teachers are native Japanese. Staff are friendly and helpful. Classes are very structured and taught completely in Japanese. One very good point about Ikoma is that you can usually request for replacement class if you are unable to attend your usual timeslot class (e.g. if your class is on Mon weekly and you cannot participate on a certain Mon, you can inform the school to attend another day such as Tue or Wed for that week). I feel that in general, there is heavy emphasis on theory over conversational.

I recently had the opportunity to get my hair color done with Norman and Iman as my stylists, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the experience! From the moment I walked in, the service was top-notch. Both Norman and Iman were incredibly professional, attentive, and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the entire process. The result is absolutely beautiful! The color is exactly what I wanted. It’s clear that they both take great pride in their work, and their expertise really shines through. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Always a pleasure to get my haircuts at Erisu. I first discovered this chain in 2021 and have not looked back since. Was with Liv for the longest time until he left and subsequently switched to Eri and both completely understood how to cut my hair, deal with my texture and my vision. They’re skilled in handling textured hair and understand the European/North American style of cutting hair rather than the East Asian style that seems to be popular in Singapore. Thank you for being my hair salvation in Singapore! I struggled for decades and finally have a place I can trust time and time again.

I would like to specially mention Andy for his wonderful and impeccable service rendered during my visit! :-) Not only was he friendly and approachable, he also showcased utmost professionalism throughout the whole hair consultation. It was a very enjoyable visit and I left very impressed with the final outcome. My hair at the end of the session exceeded my expectations and really stunned me. I would definitely recommend Andy to those who are looking to do their hair in the near future. Additionally, if you are unsure of what styles or treatments you should do for your particular hair type. Andy even showed his level of expertise and valuable tips that will help me in maintaining the condition of my newly done hair.

Let me just say this is by far the best salon I’ve been to!! I love how welcoming the staff are. Oh do take note, it’s my first time dying my hair. I was anxious the moment I sat on the chair. However, my stylist Liv was by far the most professional hairstylist there is. He did not do any hard selling, he was accommodating to my requests and did an amazing job. We had really good convos too! PS I love my hair so much, I love the how it flows and the colour is just perfect! 11/10 would come back and even recommend! :-)

It honestly took me some time before writing this because I kept trying to convince myself to love the haircut… but nope. I asked for one thing, the stylist suggested something else, and somehow I ended up with a haircut that wasn’t what I asked for or what was recommended. What made it worse was that I had already told the stylist right at the beginning before the cutting even started that this particular haircut doesn’t suit me. Usually, stylists check in about the length along the way. This didn’t happen. At first, everything seemed fine because I couldn’t really see what was being done at the back. It wasn’t until the blow-dry that I saw the length, the exact length I had mentioned during consultation that doesn’t suit me. I honestly wanted to cry but held it in because I didn’t want to cause a scene, and I tried to give it another shot by convincing myself the haircut was fine. The real shock came the next day after I washed my hair. That’s when I noticed the cut was uneven, I had short bangs I never asked for, and there were random chunks of hair sticking out. Yes, hair grows, but it takes time, and living with a haircut you hate really affects your confidence. At first, I thought maybe I was overthinking it, but after hearing the same feedback from so many people, I realised it wasn’t just me. Now I have to spend extra money at another salon just to fix the damage.

Eri is an excellent stylist! Eri is extremely good at what he does and his good skills are reflected in the way he transformed my hair! Eri has great interpersonal skills. He kept checking on my well being periodically while his team attended to me. The vibe was great and I instantly felt confident and reassured that I am in good hands! ERI SU is a go to place if you are looking for a trendy haircut or something "fresh" to make you feel different (in a good way of course!). I had a lovely experience and left Eri Su feeling great with a hair style. Go and get Eri's advice for a great hair cut and treatment. I am heading there next week to let Eri work his magic on me with a new hair colour🧡 Thank you Eri! 🧡 Sarah XOXO
