Zhang Liang Mala Tang represents the localized version of a Chinese chain that has gained traction across Asia by offering customizable spicy soup dishes in a fast-casual format. Located in Far East Plaza, this outlet brings the interactive dining concept that has proven popular with younger demographics and spice enthusiasts seeking both flavor intensity and the ability to control exactly what goes into their bowls. The restaurant's name references the founder while mala tang indicates the signature numbing-spicy (ma-la) soup base that defines the concept.
The operational model follows a straightforward process - customers select raw ingredients from a refrigerated display including various vegetables, mushrooms, meat options, noodles, and processed items like fish balls and tofu products. These ingredients are placed in a basket, weighed for pricing, then cooked in the customer's choice of soup base ranging from mild to extremely spicy. The signature mala broth features Sichuan peppercorns creating the characteristic numbing sensation alongside chili heat, though milder options accommodate those with lower spice tolerance. The result is a personalized hot pot-style dish served quickly and priced based on ingredients selected.
Zhang Liang Mala Tang operates extended hours suitable for lunch, dinner, and late afternoon snacking, appealing particularly to shoppers and younger diners comfortable with the self-service selection model. The efficient system keeps wait times reasonable even during busy periods, and the transparent pricing based on ingredient weight helps customers control costs while building their preferred combinations.

This outlets fry is not as tasty or well done as other outlets. So far Parkway Parade does it best in my opinion.
Ordered the MLXG, small spicy - order came up really dry & tasteless.
Barely add the noodles.

Clean tables, seats and floors! There was a wide variety of ingredients. The fish I ordered was fresh and the soup was served quickly. Love the Malatang here!

Yummy mala dishes at Far East plaza, part of the Zhang Liang Mala chain eateries, with good selection of fresh meat and veggies choices. Most soup flavors are tasty but also quite salty. This branch seems rather quiet most of the time after 830pm on any evening.

This outlet is at level 1 of Far east plaza.
Around 5 pm it was not too crowded but more people came in shortly.
You retrieve a large plastic bowl and select the ingredients you like eg: vegetables such as cabbage , spinach , carrot , lettuce , butter gourd .
Meats: pork , chicken, beef , dory fish , Toman fish
Wide variety of fish balls , prawn balls , luncheon meat , toufu, fried bean sheet . Etc
Then you can select it to be in variety of soup like mushroom , Tomato 🍅 and add on the mala beef broth . If you don’t eat beef , just ask them to make it as clear soup . Could be just me , super thirsty after dinner .
Not cheap $ 18 to $20 per pax .
You can also make your own sauce using the ingredients and

Visiter here for dinner on Sat night
Convenient place, well maintained shop
The ingredient wise just got enough options.
I ordered tomato soup, I could taste pork broth but rarely can taste tomato. I dont mind with pork smell but it could be better as tomato soup.
