The Eating Shrimp The Eating Shrimp

My mom and I had a lovely Sunday lunch at Tonkichi. I’m already a fan of the restaurant but decided to bring my mom to try it out as she is a Tampopo fan instead. Sadly, I did not convert her to a Tonkichi fan but she still thoroughly enjoyed her meal. We got the Hire & Rosu Katsu Set to share and added on some sides (egg, soft shell crab & spinach). Portions were just nice for us small eaters. I felt that the other choices of meat were better but this set was good too.

This establishment offers a pleasant ambiance for savoring authentic Japanese cuisine. The quality, presentation, and taste of the food were commendable, complemented by efficient service and minimal wait time. The atmosphere was serene, with a minimalist setting that fostered a peaceful environment. During my recent visit, I opted for the salmon teriyaki and cheese kasane katsu set, accompanied by a side order of soft shell crab. The portions were well-balanced, featuring an ideal ratio of meat and vegetables. The steamed pearl rice that further enhanced the dining experience is priced at $2.50 per bowl. I highly recommend this establishment for those seeking an authentic Japanese culinary experience. However, it is important to note that a significant portion of the menu consists of fried items. At the time of my visit, there were available seating options.

The hire katsu set, rosu katsu set and chicken katsu curry set were very good. The panko batter was light and crispy and the pork was very tender, well fried to perfection. Of course, we took full advantage of the free-flow shredded cabbage salad, accompanied by delicious sesame-based dressing. I think we used more than half a bottle of the dressing among the three of us. The cabbage was fresh and cut super thinly. The curry sauce is nicely done as well, and it’s got a noticeable kick of spiciness in it too. The miso soup was okay but you can tell it was the instant type though. The service was quick and very friendly. Should have ordered the hot tea because it’s refillable. Overall, it’s a good tonkatsu restaurant.

Tried this place for the first time as there were seats available on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The pork katsu set was overly oily, and each bite tasted of stale oil. The accompanying miso soup was also under‑flavoured. What affected the experience further was the service. The staff seemed overly eager to rush through tasks, which came at the expense of a comfortable dining experience.

Had a quick dinner. Dropped by Tonkichi around 7pm. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food were really good. Crispy on outside, juicy and tender inside. Goes well with the miso sauce, rice and cabbage. Will be back! Thank you

One of the earliest pork katsu shop in Singapore. Here for more than a decade. Always taste good. Always a lot of people. Fast prompt and helpful services with frequent cabbage refill.

Service was fast and the food arrived piping hot. Started with Chawamushi and potato salad. Great recommendation for the Shirobuta Rosu katsu from Japan paired well with the fried oyster and prawn. Ending it with the flavored hot ocha makes the meal complete. 🤤✌🏻 Service staff Kelvin was very polite and friendly who makes us come back again. He deserves a 5 star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Whenever visiting SG, this is one of my fav my lunch/dinner places. The shaved cabbage is so fresh that you won't mind asking for more. Btw the cabbage is refillable. The best is the sesame dressing and the super fragrant roasted sesame seeds for you to grind on your own. I like the adegashi tofu. The sauce is not too salty. The same taste like the ones i ate in Japan. I usually order the soft and non fat katsu: Hire katsu set. The portion is quite large. If you come in 3 persons, ordee 2 sets will be enough.
