A very solid place to get authentic Japanese food. We went for lunch on a Wednesday and there was a queue before opening. The food was great value at a reasonable price, with the Bara Chiraishi don ($18) being full of fish, although it's all covered in some marinate sauce so the raw fish taste isn't too pronounced. Every lunch set comes with free-flow miso soup, cabbage and green tea as well. One HUGE gripe I had was that the rice used, wasn't sushi rice, but felt more like normal rice. So it lacked the sticky factor and the sushi vinegar taste. Quite disappointing on this front and I really hope they will change the choice of rice used. Otherwise, everything was outstanding. The ambience was great too. Everyone sits side by side around the counter, where you can watch the chef at work. If you've never been to a Japanese izakaya, you can experience it right here. Overall I will certainly return but I really hope the rice situation changes for the better.

Came on 2 different occasions.. the food tasted delicious and homely, more than anything, serving size was pretty hearty and there is free flow of soup, cabbage with goma sauce and green tea / water …

This hole-in-the-wall Japanese Izakaya Bistro-style restaurant was surprisingly good. I can't stress enough how happy we were to be there for dinner. We were lucky to snag a seat despite the full house reservation, thanks to arriving early. I loved the warm sourdough bread and the variety of appetizers to start. The food, all prepared in front of us by the engaging and casual Japanese chef, was fantastic. As much as I'd like to gate keep this place, it deserves a 5 🌟 review. I will be back for sure! I heard this place is extremely popular during lunch so I'm quite keen to try their lunch menu!

1st 2025.03.11 - 4 stars 2nd 2025.03.13 - 5 stars 3rd 2025.04.01 - 5 stars 3rd visit: Brought another friend and tried Negitoro Don (very popular option for the Japanese patrons). It was sooooo good ! Didn’t wait too long too. 2nd visit: Brought a friend this time. We had the Wagyu Hamburg and Ten Zara soba. It was super good and substantial. The hamburg comes with a bowl of rice and a bowl of noodle! I am totally addicted to the fish bones miso soup here. The music is not loud today. First visit: Always walked past this place at lunch time and find long queues. Decided to start queuing at 11:10am to give it a try. There was alreedy a Japanese lady queuing with her son. Restaurant only opened at 11:37am (mmm). It completely reminds me of being in Japan. Patrons patiently queuing outside the restaurant to be seated at the counter. What is free-flow: 1. Cool Matcha tea (love it!) 2. Shredded cabbage with your choice of dressing (Crunchily fresh). 3. Seafood miso soup (I would come back just to drink this : the most delicious miso soup ever). Then you order your mains. I was deciding between Negitoro Don or Bara Chirashi Don… and settled for latter despite the not so positive reviews. It’s my first time trying a soya-soaked bara-Chirashi and I didn’t mind it. In fact, it makes it more tasty. I suspect part of the reason is to mask the not-as-fresh fish. Don’t get me wrong. The fish, scallops are all fresh. Just not as fresh as the ones I ate in Japan. I also agree with other reviews : the rice ? Is not Japanese short-grained rice. Deal-breaker? No. I just didn’t finish the rice. Seated on my left and right, were Japanese. Even the chef is Japanese. I think Japanese patrons know how to sniff a good deal. The pricing is nett and there’s a QR code to PayNow. I enjoyed my solitude lunch but I hated the loud Japanese music blasting away and yes, the patrons were chatting rather loudly - not very Japanese. Would I come back again? If I have time on my hand to queue for a good value Japanese meal. (I was actually busy multitasking away while queuing.) But I wouldn’t purposely travel here for the food. It’s what we chinese would say 家常便饭😉

found this place by accident and honestly i didnt regret it at all. had their omakase for like $120? insane value. got kinda lost because they have 2 stores on the first and second level oops (omakase is on the second) started off kinda unexpected with biscuits, then moved into a sashimi platter which tastes super fresh and comparable to omakases in the 2xx-3xx range. their unagi was a standout too (unexpectedly paired well with the spinach sauce). had oyster and king crab salad as well and just when you thought it couldn't get richer, they bought out wagyu which was quite fatty but it still melted in my mouth the chef even asked if we had space for more and whipped up some seriously good fried rice AND oden. so comforting, but man, i was genuinely at max capacity by then. had to skip the ice cream cos i rly had no room…😭 the pacing was spot on and i never felt rushed, but also no awkward long waits. for the sheer amount and quality of what we got, it was a ABSOLUTE STEAL. im def hitting this place up again to try their lunch and ala carte menu. i'd recommend if you want a unique japanese tasting experience beyond just sushi alone :)

This restaurant truly transported me back to Japan! From the entrance to being seated, every detail of the experience was superb. The food was outstanding — the chef single-handedly prepared meals for all 12 guests with impressive skill. The staff were warm, attentive, and professional throughout. We were welcomed with wasabi cream cheese, chicken liver pâté, and crackers — absolutely delicious! Every dish we ordered was incredibly flavorful and worth savoring down to the last bite.

Reservation is required as seating is very limited. There’s one unit on the ground floor and another on the 2nd floor so make sure you know where you are suppose to go. We had the omakase and there was a lot of food and everything was really flavorful. Dishes take a while to be ready as there’s only one lady preparing all the food. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Food is just okay. Briyani could be served even warmer. First time trying the chicken chop in which the spiciness came after eating for some time. The red sauce is quite flavourful. But the bun is hard and the peas are too cold. This eatery is quite obvious since it's situated beside the road and no air conditioned. Probably considered as a cheap option since there isn't much other eateries available in orchard plaza.

Tried this place after twice being told by taxi drivers abt a 24hr restaurant near our hotel. Food was really good and price is reasonable for Singapore.
