Tried Orchard Ba Chor Mee recently and honestly found it a bit underwhelming. The noodles were a little too hard for my liking, which made the dish less enjoyable. The flavors were decent, but the texture just didn’t hit the mark. The dining area was also very cramped and it got really hot, making it quite uncomfortable to sit and eat. It felt a bit rushed and not very relaxing. If you’re just grabbing a quick bite and don’t mind the heat or tight space, it might be okay — but personally, I was hoping for a better overall experience.

I didn’t take a photo of my fishball noodles—because the very first bite of that flavourful bouncy fishball instantly brought back memories of my late grandma. She used to make fishballs from scratch. That taste? So familiar—it hit right in the heart. I can’t help but wonder where they get their fishballs from. The chili sauce for the dry noodles is superb, and the pork lard adds that extra indulgence. The soup is full of umami richness. See photos of the bak chor mee and laksa. Picture is worth a thousand words. This place is definitely going to be my go-to for fishball noodles, bak chor mee and laksa. Do expect a long waiting time as the place can only hold ard 12 paxs at one point.

Where should I start? There's too many talking points for a BCM. First the wait, when we arrived, there was about 4-5 groups in front of us, a healthy queue for a stall with 12 seats, but whats "unhealthy" was they allow too many people chit chatting & savouring their "fine dining" cuisine. And as usual, with a few taking some pics for their IG post (same for me! Lol). One group of 3 grown up men in particular were seated earlier than 3 groups before them, but they seem to be talking about some 国家大事 that made them eat exceptionally slow... I mean really slow. So the question is... Is it their fault? Probably not, as the stall allows them to do so. I can't fault the stall too, as it's their own business choice to allow people to talk cock and sing songs, in this limited seating area. Or was it done intentionally to make people feel that the queue was indefinite? Perhaps... But surely feels like indefinitely slow. Finally the time has come, after 37 min of waiting, it's our turn to sit down, as the other younger guy cleaned up the table.... But oh no... That didn't happen... Instead of seating us and the group of 3 behind us immediately (so that we can order from the uncle, instead of him relaxing for that 1min), the younger guy proceeded to do the payment for another group first. Again, maybe this was done intentionally for the uncle to rest, which I am sure he deserves one, but again, for a small eatery like this, they have to manage it better. And as we were seated, uncle ask for our order, we replied, and he turned to the other group of 3 aunties and began asking more questions about their order. It was so fast that we weren't even sure our order was received (Evil thoughts began popping up my mind, thinking if this uncle somehow served them first, I will give them a 1 star, regardless! Lol) That's not all, the uncle was also talking to another group of 4 ladies before us, and I am sure that took up a few seconds here and there, but then again, am not going to fault him for finding joy while cooking and talking to people that makes him happy. Good thing was the food came fast, and within 5min, our food came. We had a Mee kia and Mee poh, more on that in a while... First was the taste of the soup, it was tasty... With a medley of ingredients and taste too... Can't quite tell, what's the reason for the nice tasting soup, but was hoping it isn't just alot of MSG. My Mee kia was super well coated with the sauce, which was pretty rich in vinegar, and also lard taste. This can be subjective, but for me, it's not my preferred kind, but again, can't fault them for that. To be fair, it's still above average as every strain of my Mee kia was well coated. Although I can't say the same for the Mee poh. The best thing about the food was actually it's minecd pork! It came out as slightly pinkish and turning to opaque soon, signifying it being well cooked already. It was really just nice, tender and goes well with the crispy and fragrant pork lard! The sliced meat were decent, fishcakes and meat balls were normal, while the fishball, despite being very q and bouncy, it has a distinct fishy taste... Some may like that though. .I didn't take the liver, but my wife felt there were tender and cooked nicely as well. Overall, for $7.90, I thought it was reasonably priced (with alot of ingredients) and in a decent clean eatery, with aircon. But will I be back again? Definitely not... To wait 40min for a BCM must mean it has to be as good as Hill street tai hwa. It's nowhere near that... but I can imagine after a late night clubbing, this will be a very good choice, together with la pona nasi lemak and the Tha Siam Thai food beside! We also ordered a laksa takeover which was sweet, thick and coconutty... different from many others outside.. Good! (Except tau pok wasn't well soaked) The final score for the BCM... It's by right a 6.5 out of 10, but a -1 for both us feeling thirsty just 15min after the meal... So 5.5 out of 10. Fair? U can queue and try it for yourself. I rather spend the time cuddling at home in the cold rain.

I was in the area and craving bak chor mee, so I decided to give this place a try. It’s a small setup, so don’t hog the space after eating and give way to others. The chef was quick and efficient, serving up a satisfying bowl in no time. What stood out was the generous amount of bak chor and the comforting, flavourful soup. The ingredients were plentiful—tender lean pork slices, pork liver, fish cake, meatballs, and fishballs. You can even add her kiao if you’re feeling indulgent. All in all, a solid late-night BCM spot in town that hits the spot without needing to travel far.

Really enjoy the soup, especially the pork liver as its cooked really well, the texture of the Liver BEST! And also the pork meat and fishball, they were so good. Soup is tasty and comforting. But not the BCM, for Me, i only taste salty and sour, not balance and tasty even there some pork lards inside but the pork taste is not there.

Still as good as the original at BK eating house! The liver is fresh and tender, the vinegar is just spot on; the minced pork is generous, the mee sua is as I remember it. Will go back if I’m nearby but it’s more like a post drinking supper spot rather than a usual makan place.

For S$7.90 a bowl of Bak chor mee with a huge heap of bouncy and fresh minced meat, sitting on a mound of delicious noodles (choose from mee pok, mee Kia, kwey teow or mee sua), drenched in umami homemade chilli sauce and vinegar with loads of pork lard… now top that off with a clear and delicious soup filled with bouncy yellow tail fishballs, fish dumplings, fish cakes and tender melt in your mouth pork liver… what more can you ask for? Totally value for money. Uncle is a Bak Chor Masterchef. Sitting is like a Japanese ramen stall around the cooking counter. Fast service by a nice young chap with black frame specs. Order is fast and payment via QR code. I’ve been back since my first visit and my parents have also gone (because I showed them photos) and they gave it 2 thumbs up. Expect to queue during peak periods. If you don’t want carbs, try their fishball or fish dumplings soup. It’s also loaded with minced meat. Their specialty? Try their dry pork liver filled with pork lard and their homemade chilli sauce. Umami to the max!

**Hidden Bak Chor Mee Gem at Orchard Plaza** Returning to this 4th level hideaway in 44-year-old Orchard Plaza, I found myself once again savoring Singapore’s quintessential midnight comfort food. The broth delivers remarkable depth—rich, clear, and perfectly balanced. The pork liver deserves special praise: whisper-thin slices served intentionally rare, completing their gentle cooking process in the steaming soup. This preserves their silky texture while eliminating any metallic notes. The noodles maintain perfect bite throughout, each strand gloriously coated with the proprietor’s homemade sambal and precisely calibrated vinegar—creating a harmony of flavors that never falters from first twirl to last. At $7.90, this signature bowl represents exceptional value for such mindful cooking that honors tradition while speaking fluently to contemporary tastes.

This is a must visit for affordable great tasting food in Orchard. The place is located in a pretty obscure location in Orchard Plaza. The store itself is really tiny, with only around 10 seats in a bar like environment. There are no tables, rather the seats are in front of a "bar". While you sit there, you can see the chef and staff prepare the food, which is an experience. I got myself the regular Bak Chor Mee at $7.90, with extra pork lard at no extra charge. I didn't expect too much at first, as i thought it was just bak chor mee. However, I was really surprised when I got my bowl. The soup bowl was much bigger than I thought, with a great deal of ingredients, such as fishcake, minced pork, fishballs, pork slices, and pork liver. The soup was really flavourful and in-depth, with a strong seafood and umami flavour. The pork slices and minced pork were also really good as they were really tender due to having cuts of fat in between them. But the standout was the pork liver. They were thick slices and were cooked just right, meaning they did not have that pungent overcooked pork liver taste from most stalls. The bowl itself was also very generous with the amount of pork liver given. For the noodles, their signature was Mee Sua, which was what I got. They also had the usual mee kia and mee pok. I was a bit skeptical, as normally bak chor mee is eaten with mee kia and mee pok, not mee sua, but i was pleasently surprised !. I got the non spicy version with ketchup. They gave a very generous amount of ketchup, along with a hefty portion of pork lard and lard oil. Mixed together with the noodles made for a very satisfying bite. The mee sua paired with the sauce quite well. Overall, I was very pleasently surprised by the food here, and I will definitely be coming back for the bak chor mee in the future.

A pleasant experience. Visited on a Friday night at around 9.45pm. There wasn’t yet a queue formed but had to wait for about 10mins for a seat. Staff were friendly, and served really quickly. Noodles tasted normal but the broth was lovely generous料 (ingredients). Chilli in the noodles was quite unique though. Queue start to form after 10pm. I would say it’s a lovely affordable place for a late dinner. Hassle-free, affordable meal in the city centre that is so local and delightful.
