Chalk Farm at Paragon Shopping Centre has established itself as a premium cake company in Singapore since opening its first outlet in the prestigious mall in 2013. Located at #B1-K5/K6 on B1 level of Paragon along Orchard Road, the bakery has built a reputation for expertly crafted cakes that combine traditional baking techniques with contemporary flavors and artistic presentation.
What began as a purely online business has evolved into a beloved physical retail destination, with the Paragon outlet featuring a cosy, clean space built around a glass kitchen that allows customers to observe the skilled pastry chefs at work. This transparency reflects Chalk Farm's commitment to craftsmanship and quality ingredients, inviting customers to witness the care that goes into each creation.
The bakery's menu showcases an impressive array of cakes that balance familiar favorites with innovative creations. Popular items include the Dark Chocolate Olive Oil cake, Bingka Ubi (traditional tapioca cake with modern presentation), Lemon Yogurt Loaf, and Salted Caramel Red Velvet. The bakery also specializes in kuehs—traditional Southeast Asian desserts—with signature offerings like Taro Pulut Hitam and Kueh Salat that elevate heritage recipes with premium ingredients and refined techniques.
Chalk Farm's position in Paragon, one of Singapore's most upscale shopping destinations, reflects the premium quality and pricing of its products. Reviewers consistently praise the quality of ingredients and execution, noting that while the cakes command higher prices than typical bakeries, the exceptional taste, texture, and presentation justify the investment for special occasions or discerning dessert enthusiasts.
Operating daily from 10am to 9pm, Chalk Farm accommodates both shoppers seeking dessert while exploring Paragon and customers making dedicated trips to purchase cakes for celebrations. The bakery also offers delivery services through platforms like Foodpanda, extending their reach beyond the Orchard Road location to serve customers across Singapore.
Visited Chalk Farm at Paragon today (Feb 3, 2025) in the evening, and had such an appalling experience that calling it disappointing would be an understatement. There were 2 staff at the outlet. The lady handling the food items (appeared to be Chinese, sorry that I’m identifying by appearance but I didn’t note her name) was shockingly rude and displayed such unnecessary temper tantrum over a price question.
I asked what’s the price for the Crinkle Cookies, as the tag said “2 for $7.20,” and I wasn’t sure if that meant two boxes or one box (each box had 2 cookies). She aggressively slammed the price display stand on to the box, upset face pointing at it and replied in angry tone! So much so that even the cashier looked up to see what’s going on.
If speaking to customers is such an inconvenience, perhaps a customer-facing role isn’t the right fit. We are paying for these items, not asking for freebies, and no one should be treated with such hostility.
This place gets negative star for service. The only reason I’m adding an extra star is because the cashier (red rimmed glasses) was kind enough to apologize on behalf of her colleague. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Sweets galore! I pray for strength and will power before I make my way to the bakery and pray even more that I do not give in to temptation upon arrival… Each time I am there, I become a kid mesmerised by their wide array of cakes, couldn’t decide what to have. All look so sinfully good, want to sample all but not allowed under doc’s guidelines.
Pricing is on the high end, don’t expect any services - just transactional.
Limited and uncomfortable seatings, not to encourage one to hang around for too long. Eat up and bugger off.

Great range of cakes with nice appearance.
Bought a slice of pistachio rose cake and a slice of lemon yoghurt loaf which were nicely packaged in a plastic box.
Pistachio rose cake had a good salty and pistachio taste with rose decoration at the top.
Lemon yogurt loaf was buttery and not that sour.

Blackforest cake - 4.5 stars
Still one of my favourite cakes! The chocolate sponge is soft and slightly on the salty side. The rum/kirsch-soaked cherries are perfect. Unfortunately they're now topping the slices with strawberries, which isn't coherent with the rest of the cake.
Durian pandan roll - 3.75 stars
Pandan sponge is deliciously soft and moist. The filling has more cream and less durian than I'd like - prob a good intro to durian. Did not like the chewy desiccated coconut.

Disappointed by our selection today.
Chocolate olive oil cake - 2.5 stars
After raving about Osteria Mozza's olive oil cake, my sister recommended this one. We couldn't taste any olive oil and as far as chocolate cakes go it was very average. Light and spongy but slightly dry. We thought it could've been an hdb chain cake. And for the price, definitely not worth it. Nesuto's and Awfully Chocolate's chocolate cakes still trump this for me.
Chocolate cherry cake - 2.5 stars
A fan of their blackforest, I've been wondering what the difference is between the blackforest and this chocolate cherry cake, which is slightly more expensive. When I asked the staff, she told me the difference was that this was a Swiss roll, so I figured it could be more effort to make the roll then, and perhaps it kept the cake from drying out. Well, the chocolate cherry cake has a similar chocolate sponge, whipped cream and cherries, but no alcohol! I would've ordered the blackforest had I known. Good chocolate sponge and big cherries, but I'm not a fan of the whipped cream.
To be fair, the lady who served us came over to check and was really friendly.
Very limited seating with 3 tiny tables, but one of the staff took up a table to do her work, and didn't move even when another customer came by so one of them ended up standing...

Blackforest cake - 4.75 stars
Best blackforest cake in Singapore, in terms of having a moist chocolate cake, fresh cherries, perfect balance of alcohol, cream and cake (and I've hunted down the best). Make sure to get it when cherries are in season so you get it with fresh cherries. I'm personally not a huge fan of whipped cream so the only thing that would make it better for me would be to swap the whipped cream for a chocolate mousse - although this wouldn't be a traditional blackforest cake. My uncles and dad take turns ordering this for their birthdays!
Having said that I've only had it when we've ordered the whole cake. I've never visited the store, or ordered individual slices (these may have dried out).

The standout for me is the divine Lemon Yogurt Cake. Moist, soft, and infused with just the right amount of tanginess, this vanilla sponge cake masterpiece is truly irresistible. I couldn't resist buying the whole cake to savor with friends!
