Ayam Bakar Ojolali specializes in ayam bakar (grilled chicken) at Lucky Plaza, focusing on this Indonesian preparation method where chicken pieces are marinated in a complex blend of traditional spices and aromatics before being slowly grilled over charcoal, creating smoky, deeply flavorful chicken with slightly charred exterior and juicy interior. This cooking technique differs significantly from ayam goreng (fried chicken) or ayam penyet, offering a lighter yet intensely flavored option that appeals to diners seeking the satisfaction of Indonesian spicing without the heaviness of fried foods. The marinade typically includes ingredients like turmeric, galangal, lemongrass, garlic, shallots, and various chilies ground into a paste that penetrates the chicken during marination periods that can extend several hours or overnight. The grilled chicken is served with steamed rice, fresh vegetables, sambal for those desiring extra heat, and often soy sauce-based dipping sauce that complements the charred flavors. Ayam Bakar Ojolali's presence at Lucky Plaza contributes to the shopping center's comprehensive representation of Indonesian regional cuisines, from Padang to Javanese to Sundanese specialties. The restaurant serves both Indonesian expatriates seeking authentic grilled chicken that tastes like home and Singaporean diners who have developed appreciation for Indonesian cuisine's depth and complexity. The casual dining format and reasonable pricing make it accessible for regular meals rather than special occasions, while the distinctive smoky aroma of grilling chicken serves as effective marketing, attracting hungry shoppers throughout Lucky Plaza.

I got their recommended milk Fish set and the sup butun. Oxtail soup. Plus a bantung drink came up to $24.50. Wow... it would be nice if the food was good. But. The fish is terrible. Over cooked and hard. Nearly cannot eat. The soup is nice but the meat is bad. So hard and overcooked. Really not worth it. I should have tried Pinoy restaurants here which is way better.

Food was nice. Had the crispy and grilled Ayam Penyet. The crispy one had a really good taste, but the chicken was a little dry and tough. The grilled one had more flavour and sauce which made it nicer. They have a promotion of topping up $1 for drink for each meal you buy. So I feel that itβs pretty worth! My second time here and would visit again.

Ayam Bakar was delicious, but the downside was itβs a bit small. But the tahu telor, mee soto taste awesome.
Has a rather homely feel compared the more famous counterparts in the same building.
Go Kartz
My favourite indonesian joint in Singapore. Really taste ayam and ikan penyet. Food not only looks good, but taste good too. They have few options for sambal, try them all to determine which you like.
