I've heard a lot about this place before visiting, especially because of its social media buzz. There are plenty of comments about the grumpy demeanor of the boss, but that didn’t deter me. I was eager to try the highly recommended Ayam Penyet or Fried Chicken Rice. When we arrived, I noticed a combo option on the menu: for $10, you get a fried chicken meal with rice, a side of soup, two sides of your choice, and a soft drink like Coca-Cola or other fizzy options. I decided to go for it. I have to say, the batter on the fried chicken is absolutely amazing. It’s incredibly crispy, albeit a bit greasy, but definitely worth the indulgence. My piece was near the breastbone, and while the chicken breast itself was a little tough, it had absorbed the marinade’s flavours well, making it very tasty. My favourite part was the batter—perfectly crisp and flavourful. I also appreciated the extra bits of batter sprinkled on top of the chicken rice, adding even more crunch. The rice wasn’t plain either; it was flavourful chicken rice, which is a big selling point. 🥰 For my sides, I chose sambal quail eggs and bergedil. The sambal served on the side leaned towards the sweeter side, which complemented the meal nicely. The dining experience was quick, and the turnover at the tables was fast, making it convenient for a speedy meal.

Bought this for take away and ate the food 1 hour later, so this is not a reflection of the real taste of the food. I'm sure if eaten on the spot, the taste will be much better. We tried this because they are having a promotion until 31 March. 1 set is $5 instead of $6.50 for purchase between 3-5pm. The opening hour is extended during the period too. See photo for reference. The taste of the food... is not up to my expectation. The breast is not hard, but still not as soft as ayam penyet. The thigh is succulent. Not much crumble as I would have expected. Sambal, not my favourite because it's more sweet than spicy. The rice is a little bit fragrant. The soup, not to my liking. Pay 30cents for each styrofoam container. If you really want to try the food, better eat on the spot, it should be good. My husband saw the staff monitoring the oil temperature from time to time. They also keep just a small batch of fried chicken. If you eat there, be patient in waiting because each piece is cooked carefully.

Didn’t encounter any of the notorious rudeness. Food was great. Chicken was tender, rice was hot and soup was flavourful. Chilli was sweet and lacked spiciness, but was still delicious. A normal plate cost $6.50 while a combo cost $10. Tables were limited and cramped.

Tabao 1 pack for $6.8. Rice is fantastically fragrant and fried chicken is good. Only gotten the normal sambal for tapao, should try the spicier chilli! Will come again!

Best ayam penyet of my life… 👍🏼 Delicious and big portion. Reasonable priced. The soup tastes exactly like one I had back in school. Nostalgic!

Came during lunch on a weekday. Waited for approx 5-10mins (luckily)! Chicken rice was fragrant, chicken was super crispy, hot and totally yumz. I would say generous portion actually - $10 for this with a small bowl of soup and canned drink on the side. Yumzzz

Finally trying Mr Grumpy's fried chicken rice. Visited during friday lunch time. Never see him, it's ok just came for the food. Never face any grumpiness or rude staff. Ordered 2 combo sets, chose 4 different side dishes to go along. Quail eggs, gizzard, liver and bergedil. All tasted nice. Rice is somewhat fragrant. Fried chicken was really good. Super loved the crispiness and the meat inside also tender, not super dry those kind. Damn yums and I probably have it again another time. If order just the fried chicken rice is at $6.50. Top with 2 sides and 1 drink at $10 is quite worth it.

The food here is solid. Fresh crispy juicy chicken, tasty rice, spicy shiok sambal. I chose bergedil and liver as my sides and they were delicious and generous. Even the soup was good. As a set meal with a canned drink for $10, this is a steal in town. Only downside is the very limited seats but turnover was quite fast on a weekday at 2pm. I found the service staff to be friendly and efficient too. Glad I finally tried it, definitely 5 stars for me.

Still the best fried chicken rice in town. Mr Grumpy is not around today when I visited. Opted for the $10 set with a drink. I came early and hence there wasn’t much of a queue

Who exactly is Mr. Grumpy ? Anyway , the fried chicken is nice . Chicken good amount of meat and breading. Good enough portion with the rice. $6.50 itself for the chicken rice .$10 combo with a drink and 2 sides, seems a lot but if you are Hungry and are those who needs a drink with their meal, go for it. Do not find seat, let him/them assigned …. Maybe that’s the part not to make him ‘angrryyyyy’
