Yi Ling
I've heard a lot about this place before visiting, especially because of its social media buzz. There are plenty of comments about the grumpy demeanor of the boss, but that didn’t deter me. I was eager to try the highly recommended Ayam Penyet or Fried Chicken Rice. When we arrived, I noticed a combo option on the menu: for $10, you get a fried chicken meal with rice, a side of soup, two sides of your choice, and a soft drink like Coca-Cola or other fizzy options. I decided to go for it. I have to say, the batter on the fried chicken is absolutely amazing. It’s incredibly crispy, albeit a bit greasy, but definitely worth the indulgence. My piece was near the breastbone, and while the chicken breast itself was a little tough, it had absorbed the marinade’s flavours well, making it very tasty. My favourite part was the batter—perfectly crisp and flavourful. I also appreciated the extra bits of batter sprinkled on top of the chicken rice, adding even more crunch. The rice wasn’t plain either; it was flavourful chicken rice, which is a big selling point. 🥰 For my sides, I chose sambal quail eggs and bergedil. The sambal served on the side leaned towards the sweeter side, which complemented the meal nicely. The dining experience was quick, and the turnover at the tables was fast, making it convenient for a speedy meal.
