The Whale Tea has rapidly emerged as one of Singapore's most exciting bubble tea chains since being recognised as The Straits Times' best bubble tea of 2023. The Takashimaya outlet brings the brand's innovative approach to classic milk tea to the heart of Orchard Road, offering shoppers a refreshing break with drinks that combine traditional bubble tea foundations with creative twists that set The Whale Tea apart from established competitors.
What makes The Whale Tea particularly noteworthy is its commitment to flavour innovation while respecting the fundamentals that make bubble tea beloved. The menu spans multiple categories including the popular Whale Crystal Series featuring the signature Blue Whale Milk Tea, Brown Sugar Series for those who appreciate caramel notes, and creative offerings like the Flaming Brown Sugar that adds theatrical presentation to the drinking experience. The brand has gained particular attention for its Pistachio series, featuring Pistachio Camellia Oolong and Pistachio Jin Guan Yin at premium pricing that reflects the quality of ingredients used.
The Takashimaya location benefits from high foot traffic of mall-goers looking for afternoon pick-me-ups or post-shopping refreshments. Regular promotions, including frequent 1-for-1 offers during opening periods and special occasions, make The Whale Tea accessible to new customers who might otherwise hesitate to try premium-priced bubble tea. The brand also offers delivery through platforms like foodpanda, extending its reach beyond walk-in customers to those enjoying bubble tea at home or in offices.
Beyond the drinks themselves, The Whale Tea has built a brand personality that resonates with younger consumers through playful branding and social media engagement. The Matcha Cloud series, featuring the addictive Cereal Milk Matcha Cloud, demonstrates the brand's willingness to experiment with unexpected flavour combinations while maintaining drinkability. For bubble tea enthusiasts seeking something beyond the usual chains, The Whale Tea offers creative alternatives without straying so far from tradition that they become unrecognisable as bubble tea.

Wine aroma really savoury that you can finish in no time. Read that it has probiotics, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Will be seeking to try other flavours soon.

The Whales Tea – Takashimaya
The Whales Tea isn’t one of the big-name bubble tea chains in Singapore — they have only a few outlets, mostly in less convenient locations, with the Takashimaya basement store being a rare exception. That’s why I decided to give them a try instead of going for my usual Chi Cha San Chen, KOI, or LiHo.
We ordered two drinks: Osmanthus Fresh Lemon and Osmanthus Oolong Tea with jelly. I’m usually not a big fan of Oolong tea, but the Osmanthus added a pleasant, light floral aroma that balanced out the tea’s natural earthiness. The Oolong wasn’t overpowering, making it easy to enjoy.
It turned out to be a perfectly refreshing choice for a mid-afternoon break.

I recently visited the new outlet of The Whale Tea at Takashimaya, and it was a fantastic experience! The location is convenient, right by the fountain in the food hall, making it a perfect spot to relax.
To celebrate their grand opening, they had a buy 1 get 1 free drink promo, which was a delightful surprise! I tried their signature bubble tea, and it was delicious—rich in flavor and perfectly brewed. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better.
I can’t wait to go back and try more flavors. Highly recommend for any tea lover or foodie!

Chanced upon this place while walking around Taka. Interestingly they use teapresso method for their tea too so it was actually really quite fragrant. Tried their signature Pistachio drink which was good! Fragrant Jin guan yin milk tea with creamy pistachio paste! The pistachio paste was good, but wished there was more~

Returned to the the Orchid Biluochun latte. It was good! Very light floral scent, with fragrant milk tea. Comes with sweet fermented rice bits at the bottom, which gives the drink its sweetness (can’t customized sugar level). It’s a unique topping! Would recommend this to drink but it’s slightly expensive at $7.90!

Sip of heaven! The Fermented Rice Osmanthus Green Tea Latte & Fermented Rice Orchid BLC Latte from The Whale Tea are absolute game-changers! I loved the sweetness of the Osmanthus, which perfectly balanced the earthy notes of the fermented rice. The Orchid BLC Latte had a pleasant bitterness, but both drinks were unique and refreshing. The fermented rice added a lovely depth and complexity to each sip. Highly recommend trying both and experiencing the distinct flavours for yourself!
