Nam Dae Mun Singapore 南大门米糕 specializes in Korean rice cakes (tteok) offering authentic traditional Korean treats and modern variations that showcase this essential element of Korean food culture. Rice cakes hold significant cultural importance in Korea, served during celebrations, holidays, and important life milestones, representing prosperity and good fortune. The shop produces various tteok types including garaetteok (cylindrical rice cakes used in tteokbokki), injeolmi (coated in soybean powder), songpyeon (half-moon shaped cakes with fillings), and yakshik (sweet rice with nuts and dried fruits). Traditional varieties follow time-honored recipes using glutinous rice, regular rice, and various flours combined with ingredients like red beans, sesame, jujube, and chestnuts creating distinct textures and subtle sweetness. Modern interpretations incorporate contemporary flavors like matcha, chocolate, or fruit, appealing to younger generations while maintaining tteok's characteristic chewy texture. The rice cakes serve multiple purposes from snacking to desserts to ingredients in savory dishes like tteokbokki (spicy rice cake dish). For Korean expatriates, access to authentic tteok provides connection to home and enables proper celebration of traditional holidays. For non-Koreans, the shop offers introduction to unique texture and subtle flavors that differ significantly from Western cakes and desserts. The fresh production ensures optimal texture and taste, as rice cakes are best consumed relatively fresh. Nam Dae Mun serves as cultural ambassador for Korean food traditions, sharing authentic tastes and educating customers about tteok's role in Korean cuisine and celebrations.

I have not been to Shanghai 🇨🇳 but I like the taste of this milk tea. Besides practicality reasons, I find that the rectangular cup also helps the brand stand out from other competitors 👍🏻
If milk tea is not for you, fret not because there is a healthy variety of sweet treats and boba flavours to keep you happy 😊 ample shared seating around too

Love the 打糕 a lotz. Go for the dates one! Definitely one of the best mochi-like desserts available in SG. The mango mochi tastes fresh and the skin is thin and refreshing. Recommend to eat immediately as they are chilled at the optimal temperature in their fridge.

Ordered the peach romance tea with 0% sugar. It was fruity, refreshing, slightly sour and had slight floral aftertaste. There were strawberries, passion fruit and peach gum in it so it didn’t feel sinful.
Service was good! The store assistant patiently explained the different drinks.

Was walking around and saw this shop with interesting Korean dessert menus. Ordered mango sago and sweet red bean sticky rice cake to try out. Like the texture of the sticky rice cake and the mango sago really taste great too!

Interesting array of sweets selection. Got the osmanthus cake in original and less sweet as gifts. Many other items look tempting~
