MOMOYA Japanese Obanzai Izakaya transports diners to Kyushu's Oita prefecture without leaving Orchard Road. Located at #02-24 Orchard Plaza, 150 Orchard Road, this intimate establishment operates Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 11:30pm, serving authentic regional Japanese cuisine in a warm, homestyle atmosphere.
Owner and chef Momo-san hails from Oita, bringing generations of culinary knowledge to every dish she prepares. The ambiance evokes Netflix's "Midnight Diner," with its cosy setting, welcoming energy, and unmistakably Japanese character. Momo-san's ever-present smile and genuine hospitality create an environment where diners feel less like customers and more like welcomed guests in a family home.
The menu showcases Oita specialties rarely found in Singapore. Tori-ten, the region's beloved chicken tempura, features tender chicken fried in delicate tempura batter rather than conventional karaage coating. Ryukyu presents silky sashimi bathed in savoury marinade, demonstrating the prefecture's distinctive approach to raw fish preparation. The Momoya course ($50) offers an excellent introduction, combining crisp chicken tempura, ryukyu, four expertly crafted appetisers, and a choice between steamed rice or onigiri.
Speaking of onigiri, MOMOYA's rice balls ($12) deserve special mention, available in flavours including Ume (pickled plum), Raw Mentaiko, Spicy Vegetables, and Salmon. Each is shaped with care and filled generously, reflecting the attention to detail that defines obanzai cooking. For reservations and enquiries, contact +65 9828 0117. Note that the restaurant operates as a member-only establishment, maintaining its intimate, exclusive character.

Food is amazing and delicious~ Me and my family really love the freshness of the fish as it is soft and tasted very good! We love the coziness and atmosphere of the shop as well. Would visit again to try out different foods! 10/10 recommended~

Everything was absolutely delicious. The chicken tempura, in particular, was so delicate and light it almost tasted like fish, so good. Likewise, the spicy vegetable onigiri was a major highlight. It was hearty and definitely worth it.

Cozy izakaya restaurant specialising in food from Oita, nice spot for a Christmas dinner date night. We had a counter seat and enjoyed the mentaiko onigiri and chicken tempura . Ended off with the duck hotpot.

We ordered the set course and it was worth it, portion wise was good esp their signature rice ball! The highlight gonna be the rice ball (tried salmon and pickled vegs), the pickled vegs was unique and nice! Rice was well done :) the chicken tempura was the other highlight, we love how moist inside and crispy outside it was- not too oily thankfully!
Ambience makes you feel like you are back japan's izakaya house and 100perc the vibes with the music and counter seatings.

Really enjoyed this place! 🍣✨
The tuna sashimi was fresh, thick, and beautifully buttery~ you can really taste the quality 🤍
The rice with egg yolk was super comforting and addictive 🥚🍚, simple but done very well.
Loved the variety of small side dishes too! Quite light, refreshing, and a great balance to the richer items 🥒🦪
The hand roll had crisp nori with generous filling, very satisfying 🌿🍙
Ended the meal with the sea salt gelato, which was a lovely surprise 🍨💙
Creamy, not too sweet, with a subtle salty finish~ Quite a perfect way to end the meal.
Overall, great food quality, comforting flavours, and a pleasant dining experience.
Would definitely come back again 😊🍵
