Flavours of Malaysia at The Line: Penang Guest Chefs Take Over Shangri-La From 13 July to 5 August
The Line at Shangri-La Singapore is running its Flavours of Malaysia buffet from 1 July to 5 August 2026, and from 13 July the spread gets a serious upgrade. Guest chefs from Shangri-La Penang take over the Malaysian section, bringing live-cooked Penang dishes that you do not normally find on a hotel buffet line in Singapore. The buffet sits alongside The Line's usual nine-station international spread, so the Malaysian items are an addition rather than a replacement.
The headline price is S$68++ per adult for lunch and S$98++ per adult for dinner, with children aged 6 to 11 at half price. Shangri-La Circle members get up to 30% off weekday lunch and dinner throughout July, which is the discount that makes lunch genuinely competitive against Orchard Road hotel buffet peers. Membership is free to join.
What the Penang guest chefs are cooking
The Penang phase, running 13 July to 5 August, is the part worth timing your visit around. The official Shangri-La Singapore social posts list live-cooked Penang Char Kway Teow, smoky Ikan Bakar, crispy Nyonya Fried Chicken, comforting Kiam Chye Ark Soup, tangy Penang Asam Laksa, and Prawn Noodle Soup. Desserts go local with Pulut Hitam, Fried Banana and Ais Kacang.
The earlier 1 to 12 July window covers a broader Malaysia-wide menu rather than the Penang-specific showcase. Shangri-La publishes separate PDF menus for the Malaysia phase and the Penang phase, so check which one applies to your date before booking. The Penang lunch and dinner menus are the ones live from 13 July.
How the buffet is structured
The Line runs nine live stations covering Middle Eastern, Indian, Western, Peranakan and Asian dishes, plus chilled seafood, sashimi, fresh popiah, satay and a carving station. The Flavours of Malaysia promotion layers the Penang and Malaysian regional dishes onto this base, so you still get the snow crab, prawns, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and roasted wagyu bolar blade that the buffet is known for. The satay line and the noodle station are where the Penang guest chefs make the most visible difference.
Who this suits and how to book
The Line is a family-friendly buffet in a quiet garden hotel setting a short walk from the Orchard Road shopping belt, and the Malaysian promotion is the kind of themed run that draws weekend family lunches. The weekday Shangri-La Circle discount is the smarter play if you can go Monday to Friday, because the Penang guest chef dishes run every day but the discount does not. Book through the Shangri-La booking link rather than walking in, because the Penang phase has been drawing fuller covers since 13 July.
