Unazen operates at Floor B2, Takashimaya Shopping Centre, serving Japanese eel cuisine with focus on unagi preparation. The restaurant specializes in grilled eel dishes including unadon (eel over rice), unaju (eel in lacquered box), and hitsumabushi (Nagoya-style eel rice). Unazen sources premium-grade eel and employs traditional grilling techniques.
The menu features set meals pairing eel with Japanese side dishes, soups, and pickles. Preparation involves steaming then grilling eel with tare sauce, creating caramelized exterior while maintaining tender flesh. Unazen appeals to diners seeking authentic Japanese eel cuisine in a casual dining format. Pricing reflects premium ingredient costs associated with quality unagi. The basement location within Takashimaya's food hall makes Unazen accessible for lunch and dinner. The restaurant attracts both Japanese expatriates seeking familiar flavors and local diners interested in specialized Japanese cuisine beyond common offerings.

Very pricey Eel restaurant that is not worth a single cent. Service was appalling, had to wait for a long long time for our dinner to be served, the table next to us who was seated way after us got their food before us! We were extremely hungry by the time the food was served. To our horror, the eel was overcooked and burnt, all we could taste was the bitterness of the burnt 50 dollars bowl of Eel rice. There are other better eel restaurant around, can give this a miss.

Eel is tender and flavorful, staff are attentive, and the Seiro Mushi set is great value. A bit pricey but worth it if you love unagi.

A friend brought me to this Japanese eel restaurant. The highlight was the very dedicated and friendly male staff. He provided attentive service, keeping an eye on our tea and refilling it as needed. I also highly recommend their green tea—it's very fragrant and has a strong green tea flavor.
We ordered a set meal and an Unagi Kabayaki & Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki Bento. The taste was decent, but the grilled eel lacked a strong barbecue flavor, and the wagyu beef was average, not fatty enough. Surprisingly, the mango crepe dessert at the end was delicious and had a rich mango flavor.

Came here for a Thursday night dinner & the restaurant was full. Food came quickly & had attentive servers. Prices were fair, not expensive and the food was good. We didn’t get any unagi despite this being an unagi restaurant. My highlight …

A pretty good place for lunch or dinner. They have some affordable set meals that are quite nice. And they have the premium set which are very good.
