Teppei Syokudo at Takashimaya Food Hall brings quality Japanese donburi to Basement 2's bustling food court. Created by a Japanese Bib Gourmand chef, this casual dining concept offers extensive Japanese menu including DIY kaisendon (sashimi rice bowls), udon, curry dishes, and various sides that deliver authentic flavours at accessible prices.
The signature DIY Kaisendon allows diners to customise their sashimi rice bowls, choosing from fresh toppings like negitoro (chopped tuna belly), salmon, tamago, and various seafood. The regular Kaisendon at S6 comes with generous toppings, while extra portions allow heartier appetites to build substantial bowls. Beyond sashimi, the menu features katsu curry with crispy chicken or pork, teriyaki salmon don, and Japanese croquettes that have earned particular praise.
What makes Teppei Syokudo remarkable is achieving Bib Gourmand quality in food court format. The preparation standards respect Japanese culinary traditions despite the casual setting and quick-service nature. The udon dishes offer proper noodle texture and broth depth, while the katsu maintains the crisp-tender balance that defines excellent Japanese fry technique. Bento meals ranging from S.80 to S5.80 provide complete, balanced meals at reasonable prices.
The Takashimaya location is part of Teppei Syokudo's expansion across Singapore including Asia Square and JEM, demonstrating the concept's broad appeal. For Orchard Road office workers seeking satisfying lunches that don't break budgets, or shoppers wanting proper meals without leaving the mall, Teppei Syokudo provides reliable quality in convenient format. The food court placement means customers can grab food and eat quickly or linger over proper meals depending on their schedules.
After patronizing from their main outlet in Tanjong Pagar for years, today is the last straw. I would never buy from Teppei again. I bought the signature kaisendon from the Takashimaya outlet and the portion of the sashimi is so little. Pathethic to be honest for a bowl that cost SGD 16. The staff told me they weigh the fish (which i did not see them doing) for each of the bowl but you dont need a weighing machine to see how little the portion is compared to last time. It is a really sad amount of sashimi scattered over the rice.

Very disappointing. I remember the Signature Kaidendon from a few years back which was flavourful and of much larger portion. I was appalled to see the KaisenDon that was served to me today - the portion was seriously lacking and looking pathetic. Taste wise was either too salty or rubbery. Can get much better quality and taste and portion at similar price points. Croquettes were decent

I got food poisoning from the katsu curry, undeniably it was the only thing I ate and the only thing coming out of my vomit. Beware

It used to be my favorite. But after they change the takeaway box, it seems like they also change away the taste. Rice was hard and ingredients looks lesser...

■ In the past, Teppei Syokudo used to sell unagi-don ( grilled eel rice bowl) at this Takashimaya kiosk.
🟦 Details:
● I queued and waited for approx 8 mins for my Unadon at Teppei Syokudo's kiosk at B2 level Food Hall at Takashimaya Dept Store.
🟦 In past years, there was a special unagi bento set at SGD15.80 at this Takashimaya Teppei Syokudo kiosk. ✅️ For takeaways only.
🟧 Besides rice bento takeaways, this kiosk also sells all kinds of Japanese croquettes. Their croquettes are really delicious, crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft inside.

Given a choice, eating at the main shop is always best. But in the absence of alternatives, this outlet is life saver!!!
Their kaisendon is consistently oh so good and they have a plethora of choices for tempura stuff.
Queue can get quite long as the food is freshly prepared upon ordering, but therein lies the magick ba.
And oh! You can use your taka vouchers here too. So it’s another win for this excellent choice for soul food!!!

Wife lives for the signature kaisendon. Eat poor me. Guys beware - have to start earning more money so that your partner can be satisfied.
