Orchard MRT Station (NS22/TE14) serves as major interchange connecting North South Line and Thomson-East Coast Line, strategically positioned beneath ION Orchard along Orchard Boulevard. The underground station opened December 12, 1987, anchoring the shopping district's public transport network serving millions annually through dual-line connectivity enabling seamless transit across Singapore.
Multiple exits serve different buildings throughout Orchard Road's shopping corridor including ION Orchard, Ngee Ann City, Wisma Atria, and surrounding developments through extensive underground pedestrian network. The interchange eliminates transfer needs for passengers traveling between north-south and east-west destinations, significantly enhancing transit convenience for Orchard's commercial district and beyond.
The station's importance extends beyond Orchard Road, functioning as crucial node in Singapore's MRT network connecting residential areas, business districts, and recreation destinations. Platform facilities, signage, and crowd management systems handle peak passenger volumes during shopping seasons and special events. The station transformation into interchange with Thomson-East Coast Line opening enhanced Orchard Road's accessibility and reinforced its position as Singapore's premier retail destination.

Unlike many other MRT stations which is opened and spacious, Orchard MRT Station is appallingly gaudy. The combination of the dark brown coloured stone walls, the LED lightings which is piercingly bright and inconspicuous signage to aid commuters moving from the different levels (exit for street level, NS line and Thomson line). I came across a lady looking for the exit in the NSline concourse, The design, decoration & layout are just too busy for the eyes.

It’s so damn difficult to get a ticket for the train. At the ticket sales counter, they only can receive cash to sell the tickets. At this counter, station master counter and all the ticketing machines, they no longer sell single trip ticket neither. And at the gantries, none takes paylah, paynow, nor Amex; only Mastercard and Visa. So, travellers are pretty wasted at the station when they don’t have a mrt card with them. Terrible! This is like cashless but not cashless.

Orchard MRT Station has been around for decades, since I was literally a small kid. Wonderful this station remains clean, and even more accessible than before with underground and ground level connections to so many places around downtown Orchard Road. This stations serves both the red North South Line and the brown Thomson East Coast Line, which makes it extra convenient. It may be a bit busy during peak hours so just watch your step. There are plenty of friendly staff to assist if needed too.

Orchard MRT station is one of the ‘classic’ older station in one of the earlier MRT lines in Singapore.
It's a shopping hub, a ‘must-see’ destination for tourists where all things happen. I think it still retains its status.
There are big chains of departments stores like Takashimaya, Tangs, Wisma Atria, and many hotels around here. If you want a leg cramping shopping experience, walk from here to City Hall.
It's tidier now compared to then, imho, although it caters much more to commercial. Back then, there were more bookstores and others, now it's mostly fashion and lifestyle.
It's always crowded and noisy, sometimes going to food court feels like battle royale. If you like people and shopping, you'd love Orchard.

I wish to commend a woman Orchard MRT staff who helped me this morning at 10.10am. I entered Orchard MRT Gantry and I immediately exit at the same station😅 cos I was dreaming😅. I told the staff to deduct my exit fare cos I am supposed to exit two stations later, not at the same station. She said she would call the staff at my intended exit station so that I wouldn’t need to pay again at that station when exiting. And yes, all smooth when I reached that station. I exited accordingly without incurring additional cost. Thank you, MRT staff. I appreciate your kindness when I made a mistake.

Orchard MRT Station is an interchange station of North South Line and Thomson East Coast Line of Singapore MRT system. It offers seamless transfer between both lines as commuters just need to move among platforms.
The station was clean and comfortable with good conditioning system. It has public toilet for commuters. Clear signages were stated at the station to help commuters to change between both lines or to look for the nearest exits or buildings or places. As this Orchard MRT station is located at the Singapore shopping heaven, Orchard Road, it has direct connections to shopping mall nearby.
