Ibu Sarah Kitchen and Tea House at Orchard Towers transports diners to the heart of Indonesia with its authentic home-style cooking and warm, inviting atmosphere. Located at #02-21 of 400 Orchard Road, this cozy establishment recreates the essence of traditional Indonesian kitchens, where recipes passed down through generations come to life through careful preparation and genuine passion for the cuisine.
The restaurant's menu spans the breadth of Indonesian culinary traditions, organised across categories including lunch and dinner menus, signature dishes, Asian breakfast options, soups, seafood, rice dishes, vegetables and desserts. The beef rendang stands as a centrepiece, with meat slow-cooked for hours in rich coconut spices until tender and deeply flavourful. Equally impressive is the gulai kakap merah, featuring red snapper simmered in a golden, aromatic curry that showcases the complexity of Indonesian spice blends.
Signature offerings like nasi bakar demonstrate the restaurant's commitment to traditional cooking methods, with rice and spiced chicken wrapped in banana leaves and grilled over charcoal for a distinctive smoky flavour. The ayam penyet at $12.90 delivers crispy fried chicken with sambal, whilst the sup buntut at $15.80 presents Indonesian-style oxtail soup, slow-stewed until the meat falls off the bone in rich, collagen-laden broth.
The extensive beverage selection includes traditional Indonesian drinks such as wedang jahe, a warming spicy ginger drink, alongside es bandung, various juices, coffee and an impressive tea collection. With delivery available through foodpanda and reservations accepted via Chope and Quandoo, Ibu Sarah Kitchen offers convenient access to heartwarming Indonesian cuisine in the Orchard district.

Highly recommend Ibu Sarah Kitchen for an authentic Indonesian culinary experience. The ambiance was inviting, and the food exceeded expectations. Highlights included the superb nasi bakar and exceptional tahu telor, with perfectly fried tofu complemented by a rich peanut sauce. The ayam penyet stood out with its well-marinated, crispy exterior and juicy interior - a standout compared to others. A minor suggestion: adjusting the spice level of the sambal prawn and petai could enhance the experience. Overall, the quality and value offered were outstanding. Impeccable service from the team. Kudos to Ibu Sarah and Fareed. Will return and recommend to others.

Gone are the seedy clubs and in place are foodie delights like this Indonesian joint which serves up the tastiest beef rendang. The rempah is to die for, beef was tender and flavour was intense. Ayam penyet was well marinated and the grated coconut was a joy as an accompaniment to the dish. The gula melaka used in the dish was very authentic and definitely a treat to the senses. Definitely return to try more of their beef dishes especially

Ibu Sarah Kitchen is a solid bet if you’re after authentic Indonesian flavours in a cozy, chill environment — good for dinners with friends, casual dates, or a relaxing meal after shopping near Orchard. The dishes are well-regarded, and the vibe sets it apart from typical fast-food or hawker-style spots.
If you prefer more substantial portions or milder flavours — or are on a tight budget — maybe pick a few signature dishes rather than order many plates. And for dinner, best to reserve ahead if you don’t want to risk no table.
Ambience: Casual, warm, a little nostalgic — with mismatched furniture, plants, cozy lighting, and even a small stage for occasional live music.
Best for: Casual lunch or dinner, small groups or dates, people looking for Indonesian comfort food in a relaxed yet thoughtfully styled setting.

The curry was very lemak… rich and flavourful.
Kangkong with good wok hei… the fried tofu cube was just average. Blue Pea tea at $7 is overpriced. The set meal is value for money, available on weekends too!
Overall, a great place to hangout over a meal on weekends. Orchard Towers is a dead town, hence this is a great place to have a quiet meal over the weekends.
The food is good with great service.

First time trying out the food in the restaurant.
We ordered the beef rendang, sambal prawns, tahu telor, gulai ayam, fried chicken and a veg dish.
The stars of the show were the prawn sambal and beef rendang.
The prawn sambal was nice and spicy and the prawns were crunchy.
The beef rendang was a delight and the meat was very tender and tasty.
We also ordered the banana fritters and chendol for dessert. The fritters were awesome.
Service could be improved though, as it was hard to get the attention of the staff when we wanted to place our food order
The ambience was great and this place is worth return trips for sure.
