Cathay Cineplex, a landmark cinema in Cineleisure Orchard, operated at the heart of Singapore's bustling Orchard Road district until June 2023. Situated at 8 Grange Road, the cinema was renowned for delivering premium film experiences with 12 state-of-the-art screens that catered to both mainstream and independent film enthusiasts.
The cinema earned accolades for its technical excellence, with two of its halls voted among Singapore's best screens by The Straits Times in 1998. Its strategic location adjacent to Somerset and Orchard MRT stations made it easily accessible to shoppers and cinema-goers navigating the Orchard precinct.
As part of Cineleisure Orchard's evolution, the cinema space has transitioned to Golden Village x The Projector (GVxTP), continuing the tradition of quality entertainment while expanding offerings with both mainstream and curated indie cinema programming. The mall itself remains a vibrant 14-storey lifestyle hub, featuring an indoor trampoline park on Level 9, diverse food and beverage options, fashion retailers, and comprehensive entertainment facilities that make it a preferred destination on Orchard Road.
Update in June 2023. This building is going to be demolished and a new one will take it's place. Stay tuned!
This place is Empty and is literally a ghost town.
I was there on a Friday evening in Sept 2021 and I saw a lot of empty stores. Most probably they are affected by the pandemic and also because cause there is a significant shift in shopping habits of the new generation.
Gone are the custom and limited edition shoe stores. Only a few eateries are left and they are mostly on the first floor and the basement. The cinema is also rather quiet and one can still get good seats as a walk in customer on weekends. No need for advanced booking.
It is rather sad because this place used to be bustling and very busy before the pandemic. It was the IN place to catch the latest movie releases before year 2020. Now it is just an empty shell.

I arrived at 11am as I wanted to purchase movie tickets via the ticketing counter (there is the POSB PAssion card 1-for-1 movie tickets promotion on the 10th of every month which is only valid via counter purchase) but nothing was opened yet, including the self-ticketing kiosk. I believe that the opening hours has been brought backward presumably due to COVID-19, however this is simply unacceptable as the mall has commenced operations since 10am (I remembered that the cinema follows the mall opening hours) and there was no notice on the official website indicating of such practice.

1. Theater was warm.
2. Too dark to find our seats. Everybody has to fished out their phones to find seats.
3. Popcorn is not fresh.
4. Service staff was rude. You could tell us nicely if you guys don't accept cash.
5. For a place who doesn't accept cash, we still have to print out our movie tickets.

Watched 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' here last weekend. The mall and the surrounding area had convenient food options. Really cool that the washrooms are situated at the back of the theatre as it's v convenient and I don't have to miss too much of the movie. A pity that it's going to close soon.

Bringing the kiddos to a cinema I used to frequent when I was dating their mom...!!! Some of the areas of building under upgrading so it wasn't a good site...

Unique cinema experience.. This place is quiet and located in the most busy area in orchard..
Theatre is big and nice atmospheric and toilet is located within the theatre. Snacks and beverages is located st lvl5 and theatre in lvl 6..
Entry allowed only 10min before the show time.
