We managed to get seats for Sunday lunch without a reservation. Both of us ordered the Ippon Una-Ju Set — a generous piece of unagi served over rice. I like to sprinkle some sansho to bring out the flavour. Avoid adding extra unagi sauce, as it can make the dish overly salty. Judging by the steady stream of customers, this seems to be one of the go-to spots if you’re craving good unagi.

The service at Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa Singapore was warm and attentive. When I started coughing shortly after we arrived for dinner, the staff immediately offered me a cup of warm tea, which was such a thoughtful gesture. We ordered one Hitsumabushi Set, a Kebayaki Set, and a mixed tempura to share. The portions were generous, and we left completely stuffed. The Kebayaki had a nice, slightly crispy texture without being dry, and the tempura was outstanding—crispy on the outside yet light and fluffy inside. The hojicha tea was really good quality and the perfect way to wash it all down. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

Had such a wonderful dining experience at Unagi Yondaime Kikukawa Singapore! The sushi were incredibly fresh and beautifully presented, and the unagi was absolutely top-notch , rich, flavorful, and perfectly grilled. The cozy atmosphere made the meal even more enjoyable. A special mention to Mary,Ruby and Ederma, who are very accommodating and attentive, always checking what we needed to make our experience memorable. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors and warm hospitality.

Verdict: 4.2/5 Saw this Grilled Unagi place on social media, and it is said to be the first grilled unagi in served in full portion locally, so decided to try it out on a Saturday lunch (19 April). We booked a reservation via Chope, but the place was not snaking long during our appointed time (12 Noon), so do your own diligence. My partner and I ordered two variants, the Kabayaki Ippon Jyu Set ($48) and the Hitsumabushi Set ($37). Kabayaki Ippon Jyu Set - 4.5/5 As advised by our server, he mentioned this set may be too large of a portion to be finished by a single individual, but overall it is doable for a couple, or two guys. Unagi was grilled to perfection by the chef, served over a layer of white rice, with a bowl of miso soup and a plate of side dishes consisting of fresh lotus root, carrot, radish etc. However, the rice was not really warm enough to keep the grilled unagi piping hot, which takes away some of the hearty goodness of Grilled Unagi X Warm Rice. Hitsumabushi Set - 4.5/5 This set was served in the style of grilled unagi over rice in a smaller bowl portion for light eaters, with the addition of condiments to pair your unagi and rice with. Dashi was also supplemented, allowing you to make ochazuke rice broth, if you are into that concept. For us, the ochazuke with chopped green onions was a great combo, adding more flavours to the meal. Drinks - Kaku Highball & Roasted Green Tea Drinks were as average as expected. Kaku Highball came in a plastic cup instead of a glass (?), which was kind of weird. Ice melted too quickly, diluting the taste of the highball. Roasted green tea was alright, nothing exceptional. Ambience wise was a turn off, as we had a group of guys nearby talking loudly in an enclosed space. Not a good way to announce to everyone your plans guys, I am not interested. Yup, in conclusion, do try out the unagi if you have a craving, but do beware of the higher price point for this joint. No GST though, I guess it is already accounted for within the prices offered? On to the next hunt, let’s go~
