Reviews for Tonkatsu by Ma Maison Mandarin Gallery

First of all, what sets this place apart from the hundreds other tonkatsu place in Singapore is their service. We were greeted by Jon, who was extremely friendly without being imposing. It elevated our experience and made me want to bring all my friends and family here. Jon caught me staring at the signboard promoting the cheese katsu and when he sat us down, immediately started recommending me cheesy katsu options. To be loved is to be seen.
Secondly, the food was amazing. The cheese was to DIE FOR, and so generous with it. The food was promptly cleared away and our drinks were always kept full. Overall, the food was amazing but the service was what made me want to return again. This was worth every penny!

Tucked away in Mandarin Gallery, this spot gives you all the cozy, retro Japanese diner vibes 🇯🇵 Warm lighting, wooden interiors, perfect for a quiet solo meal or a relaxed catch-up with friends.
👅 We ordered:
✅ Shirakaba Rosu Katsu – Crispy outside, tender and juicy inside. Perfectly fried and not greasy at all! Loved the texture and thickness, it is so satisfying 🐷💯
❌ Nagoya Miso Katsu – Honestly, not for us 😬 The miso sauce was way too strong and salty, overpowering the pork. None of us at the table enjoyed it, so maybe skip it unless you're a hardcore miso fan.
🍚 What we loved:
Free-flow rice and salad! Just ask the staff and they’ll happily top it up. Perfect for big appetites and such a nice touch 👏
🙋♀️ Service was excellent, staff were super polite, attentive, and fast. Felt very taken care of.
📍Location:
Mandarin Gallery, 4th floor. Just a few mins walk from Orchard MRT, super convenient. Great place to eat after a shopping day 🛍️
💰Cost per person:
Around SGD 25–35. Fair for the quality, portion, and service.

⭐️ Final thought:
The Rosu Katsu is worth going back for. Skip the miso one if you're not into rich flavors. With free rice & salad refills and excellent service, this spot is a solid katsu fix in Orchard.

Tonkatsu specialty shop served 2 tonkatsus that were soggy at the bottom. Wire rack clearly just for show.
Informed a wait staff (serving drinks) we were ready to order. The staff replied "Oh i dont take orders" and walked away.
Meat flavour was ok but nothing to shout about

Other than the great food, service was excellent! Didn't manage to catch their names, but all the older staff were attentive and had this air of warm hospitality that could melt Christmas snow 🥹 We'll be back again.

We visited this restaurant on a Tuesday afternoon during lunchtime & it was a full house. We had to wait for a short while for a table. The tonkatsu is well-prepared and much better than expected. The cabbage is fresh & can be refilled, which we did. The service is also outstanding. Really, the service is way above average! As a default, as soon as you’re seated, you’ll be served with a glass of iced roasted barley tea, which is nice & complimentary. Will definitely come back again soon!
