This is one of the Japanese restaurant that’s been around for decades and the food is still good.
You can simply tell by the crowd lining up during lunch time. (Reservations is advised)
This eatery offers value-for-money set meals and the quality and cooking is still good.
They are famous for their KAMAMESHI Set Meals (individual metal pot meals)
Went during one of the weekdays, and they are doing the Autumn Menu set.
Enjoy!

The best Japanese restaurant we have been in Singapore. Everything was served to perfection. Quality of food was certainly one level higher than those others we have been before (disclaimer: we don’t go Michelin star place) so it is worth the price. The food was also served very fast. Hardly any wait after ordering from the tablet. The crew who helped us with membership registration was remarkably patient. He even wished my wife happy birthday when he knew that was the day. Overall, fantastic dining experience.

Sun with Moon Japanese Dining offers a refined and authentic Japanese dining experience in a cozy, modern setting. The menu features a wide variety of traditional and contemporary dishes, from fresh sashimi and sushi to comforting donburi and sukiyaki. Standout items include their signature kamameshi (iron pot rice) and well-crafted bento sets. Ingredients are fresh, presentation is elegant, and service is attentive without being intrusive. The ambiance is calm and suitable for both casual lunches and intimate dinners. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Overall, a satisfying spot for Japanese cuisine lovers seeking quality and variety in a relaxing atmosphere.

TDLR: Food is decent but terrible service. Would not recommend.
Made a reservation for lunch at 1.30pm on a Saturday, and was made to wait in line with the walk-ins. When I tried to clarify with the front of house staff, she told us to join in the walk-in queue rudely even though it was already 1.30pm. There was only one person assigning tables, and when we reached the front of the queue, we shared that we felt it would be better if they had a separate queue for walk-in and prior reservation, even emphathizing that it was busy, she did not accept the feedback and put up an arguement with us with the most disgruntled look. That was a terrible start to the meal. The food was fine. When I went to pay with my membership card which I had purchased years ago, I found that the barcode had scratched off due to wear and tear over the years, and the phone app they suggested I download was not compatible for my phone (Google Pixel 9) as the app could only be downloaded on older Android versions. As a result, I could not collect any points for my meal.
Though the food was decent, the terrible service put me off visiting Sun with Moon in the future. There are many better Japanese food options in Orchard, like Sen Ryo in ION with much better service, and staff members who accept feedback from customers.

Dine here for the first time and this is so good... I love it... I ordered a pork steak set, came with rice and miso soup. It was so nice... The meat was tender, even the rice was also so good. The service was fast and good too... I came for early dinner and when I came it was only like 3 tables got guests, but when I finished all tables are full. It worth the money for a set like that. Reserve your table is a must.

I recently dined at Sum with Moon Japanese Dining, drawn in by a friend's rave reviews about their seafood rice bowl. Unfortunately, we both found it underwhelming and not as impressive as we had hoped.
On a positive note, the service was attentive, and the ambiance was quite pleasant, making for a nice dining experience overall. While the seafood rice bowl didn’t meet our expectations, I appreciated the overall atmosphere and friendly staff.
Given the overall experience, I’m not sure if I’d return, but it’s worth checking out if you’re in the area!

Good value set meals that are of good quality. Highly popular and reservation recommended. Really extensive menu which will take many visits to work through. Excellent and friendly service.

A friend recommended this place, saying the food was great, and I have to admit—the salmon belly sashimi really delivered. It was thick, fresh, and satisfying. I also really enjoyed their sushi rice; it has a unique flavour that stands out from other places I have tried.
That said, the katsu was a letdown. The chicken was slightly overcooked, and the crust wasn’t crispy at all. And I am not sure why they decided to sprinkle peas everywhere—six on the katsu and three on the chawanmushi. I am not a fan of peas to begin with, so it felt pretty random and honestly ruins it for me.
Price-wise, it is steep. A set costs around $45 after GST and service charge. The portions aren’t tiny, but still not quite worth that price point. Overall, the food is generally good, but the value for money just isn’t there.

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service by Wei Lun on 17 Dec 2025 around 6.30pm
When I reached the restaurant, he asked if I had a reservation? I told him that I called earlier but was asked to walk in.
He gave me a frog eye look and asked me how many pax. When I told him 9, I got glared at again but still managed to get a table quickly.
Unfortunately, 3 of my family members was unable to sit in for dinner. I quickly got another staff to change to a smaller table.
After dinner, my uncle wanted to pay on my behalf but I stopped him and passed my credit card to the Wei Lun at the cashier and told him to collect the payment from me.
We were extremely shocked....the moment he stared rudely at me and said, you guys go and settle first and he just walked away from the cashier.
He was truly impudent.
Another lady (pleasant) was dazed that the cashier was left unattended and quickly ran up to the cashier to help us as there were other customers waiting to do payment too.
This is the worst customer service I've ever encountered.
I truly hope that the management will look into this matter seriously.
*Other waiter and waitresses that served us on that day was good and polite*

Had lunch with friends here at SUN with MOON Japanese restaurant. Overall food is pretty decent and good. Ordered the chicken and steak. Steak could be better, chicken was ok. The set meal options are decent. Service is good and friendly. Wait time was ok but today is a weekend at 1pm.
