Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ This was my 3rd visit to S. Abdul Hamid Money Changer at Lucky Plaza in the past 5 months — and it will definitely be my last. I used to trust this place. In fact, it even came up in ChatGPT as one of the better-rated money changers, so I returned without hesitation. But what happened on 07/04/25 at 8:48pm left me feeling completely cheated. I exchanged 470,000 KRW, but they treated it as just “470”, multiplied it by 0.8, and handed me $376 SGD. At the actual market rate, I should’ve received $430+ SGD. Even the lowest exchange rates that day would’ve still given me $420+. That’s a difference of $50–60, which is absolutely ridiculous. When I questioned the rate on the spot, the staff only then printed out the receipt and told me, “That’s the current rate.” There was no rate board, no breakdown, and no explanation upfront. It was only after I walked off and did proper research that I realised how off the rate was and how much I’d been shortchanged. This wasn’t a minor oversight — it felt deliberate and shady. There was ZERO transparency, and the way they handled it came across as though they were hoping I wouldn’t notice. They are, honestly the most dishonest money changer I’ve ever dealt with. If MAS or the police or any authority is reviewing this, please feel free to check the CCTV from that date and time — because everything I’ve said is 100% true. I’m very money-minded and I don’t play around with BS like this. It’s not just about the amount — it’s about being misled and taken advantage of. I truly hope the relevant authorities take a closer look at this outlet. It’s unacceptable for a licensed money changer to operate like this, especially in a place like Lucky Plaza that sees tons of tourists and locals. Save yourself the headache — avoid this darn place at ALL costs.

VERY VERY DISHONEST money changer, avoid it like it’s the PLAGUE!!!! I’ve heard of this happening in other Asian countries but it’s happening in our own backyard now!!My partner went to change Philippine Pesos and gave them 1770 pesos and she only got S$24 instead of the $43.81 being their published rate of 40.40. When my partner refused to accept it and wanted her money back she got back 600 pesos less and When she asked them about the shortage of 600 pesos he apologized and gave her back only 500 pesos saying that’s all there was.My partner got her Pesos changed at Everest and got S$40. That’s $16 more!! The shortage of 100 pesos is approx. $2+ but imagine them doing this to over 50 or a 100 Filipina Foreign Domestic Workers on a daily basis who aren’t very highly educated and work very long hours to support their families in the Philippines. It is very sad and I hope the necessary authorities will come down hard on these errant establishments that give Singapore a Bad name.
