Kuroki operates as an intimate Japanese yakiniku specialist on Paragons fifth floor, representing another successful concept from the Sushi Tei group that has demonstrated expertise in developing diverse Japanese dining formats. Located at 290 Orchard Road beside Sushi Tei, Kuroki offers premium Japanese barbecue dining in an environment that feels deliberately under-the-radar compared to flashier Orchard Road establishments, appealing to diners who prioritize food quality over trendy atmospherics.
The restaurant maintains just four tables in the main dining hall plus two private rooms accommodating up to ten guests each, creating an exclusive atmosphere where service can remain attentive and intimate. This small footprint means reservations prove advisable, particularly during lunch and dinner peak periods when the value-oriented set menus attract office workers and serious yakiniku enthusiasts.
The meat selection showcases Kurokis commitment to quality sourcing, featuring premium cuts from traceable farms across Japan and Australia. The lunch sets, available daily from half past eleven until half past two in the afternoon, start from thirty-five dollars, representing exceptional value for premium wagyu beef in an Orchard Road setting. The fifty-eight dollar premium set includes four different wagyu cuts, allowing diners to compare marbling levels and flavour profiles across different preparations.
The yakiniku format provides engaging dining theater as guests grill their selections tableside, controlling doneness to personal preference while enjoying the aromas and sizzle that define Japanese barbecue culture. Staff members provide guidance on optimal cooking times and techniques, ensuring even yakiniku novices achieve good results without overcooking expensive cuts.
Operating daily from half past eleven in the morning until ten at night, Kuroki fills a niche in Paragons dining ecosystem, offering serious Japanese barbecue enthusiasts an alternative to the sushi and ramen restaurants that dominate Japanese dining options throughout the Orchard district.
The lunch set is good value.
The cuts of meat used could probably be better. Somehow it didn’t taste high quality.
Nonetheless it’s a nice location for a catch up and the service folks were great. Offered me a room when they saw I was with my Brompton.

Had an amazing Japanese Wagyu BBQ lunch set! The 4 cuts of beef were incredibly tender and flavorful. The chawanmushi was silky smooth, and the ice cream was a perfect sweet finish. Great service and ambiance made the experience even better.
Definitely worth it—highly recommend!
