Fat Momma Kitchen brings robust home-style Chinese cooking to Shaw House, specializing in zi char preparations and comfort food that emphasizes hearty portions and bold flavors over refined presentations. The restaurant's name directly signals its identity - unpretentious, generous cooking evoking maternal warmth and satisfaction rather than restaurant formality. This positioning appeals to diners seeking authentic, satisfying Chinese food without premium pricing or elaborate service structures.
The menu likely features zi char standards including wok-fried dishes showcasing proper wok hei (breath of the wok) flavor development, claypot preparations, braised items, seafood dishes, and various meat and vegetable combinations served family-style for sharing. Home-style Chinese cooking emphasizes robust seasoning, practical ingredient usage, and cooking techniques refined through generations of home cooks rather than professional chef training. The approach prioritizes flavor impact and satisfaction over subtle refinement or plating aesthetics.
Fat Momma Kitchen operates at Shaw House during standard meal service hours serving lunch and dinner crowds. The restaurant accommodates both solo diners and groups with family-style ordering typical of Chinese restaurants. Pricing remains moderate, positioning the establishment as accessible for regular visits rather than special occasions while portion sizes ensure diners leave satisfied. The location in a major Orchard Road building provides visibility and foot traffic while the straightforward, authentic approach distinguishes Fat Momma Kitchen from more upscale Chinese restaurants in surrounding properties.

I visited Fat Mom Kitchen today and it instantly became one of my favourite casual spots for comforting local food.
The highlight here is definitely the Paper-Wrapped Chicken — super fragrant, juicy, and packed with flavour. It’s the kind of dish that makes you want to order a second portion.
I also tried their Bak Chor Mee (minced meat noodles). The noodles were springy, the vinegar balance was just right, and the bowl came with generous toppings. Very satisfying.
The staff were friendly and the food came out fast. Overall, a great place for affordable, authentic Singapore flavours. I’ll definitely be back!

I recently tried the Paper-Wrapped Chicken here, and it absolutely blew me away! Each piece was tender, juicy, and packed with aromatic flavors. The clever use of paper wrapping locks in the moisture and infuses the chicken with a subtle hint of herbs and spices.
The dish arrived steaming hot, and unwrapping each parcel felt like opening a delicious gift. The seasoning was perfectly balanced—not too salty, with a lovely umami taste. It’s clear that fresh ingredients and traditional techniques are used here.
If you’re visiting, don’t miss out on this signature dish. It’s flavorful, unique, and truly satisfying. I’ll definitely be back for more!

The original paper-wrapped chicken was delicious , drumstick was big and very tender. We also tried the meatball/fishball soup, and the balls were bouncy and firm. The chicken cutlet noodles were also very good. The cutlet was crispy and flavorful.Really worth a try!

Tried their paper wrapped chicken! The meat was tender and flavourful, quite strong Chinese herbal - Dang Gui taste. Their noodle was cooked nicely, it has the QQ texture ! Their noodle soup with meat balls and fish balls worth a try! Affordable meals in Food republic in Orchard!

The foods at this place is really flavorful, and the price is not expensive. Their signature scallion oil noodles are delicious, and the herbal chicken is my absolute favorite—paired with that chili, it's simply superb/fantastic👍😍✨ If you're around Orchard, you might want to come and give it a try.
