Job Description

Position Overview


The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical operations, maintenance, and engineering functions of offshore assets, ensuring compliance with international standards, company policies, and client requirements. This role involves managing vessel/asset performance, coordinating technical projects, and leading technical teams to achieve operational efficiency, safety, and reliability.


Key Responsibilities


Technical Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the technical performance, maintenance, and repair of offshore vessels, rigs, or assets.
  • Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance programs are in place and effectively executed.
  • Monitor vessel condition, machinery performance, and ensure optimization of asset lifecycle.


Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all technical operations comply with IMO, Flag State, Class, and industry regulations.
  • Promote and enforce safety management systems (ISM, ISO, and client-specific standards).
  • Support audits, inspections, and surveys; implement corrective actions where required.


Budget & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage technical budgets, including dry-docking, repair, and maintenance costs.
  • Monitor expenditure, optimize resources, and ensure cost-effective technical operations.


Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee technical projects such as dry-docking, modifications, or upgrades.
  • Liaise with shipyards, contractors, and vendors to ensure timely and quality project execution.


Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor superintendents, engineers, and offshore technical staff.
  • Coordinate with crewing and operations departments to ensure effective manning and technical readiness.
  • Develop training and competence programs for technical personnel.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the technical point of contact for clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice and support to management and commercial teams.
  • Prepare and present reports on technical performance and asset condition.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent.
  • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (preferred) or strong technical background in offshore operations.
  • Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in technical management of offshore vessels, rigs, or floating assets.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime regulations, class requirements, and industry standards.
  • Proven experience in dry-docking, repair projects, and asset upgrades.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
