Job Description

Primary responsibilities:

  • Effectively and competently perform third party inspection of goods presented for inspection in petroleum and chemical products at various terminals. 
  • Perform inspection on quality and quantity control of bulk liquid cargoes.  Ensure that company objectives are achieved in carrying out the inspection without sacrificing the quality and service of the company.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Actively undertake the training and guidance of new trainees and junior surveyors in chemical and bulk liquid inspections within the division, ensuring good safety practices and housekeeping are maintained on site.
  • Follow detailed instructions provided by operational staff and perform all assigned activities efficiently.
  • Review all new orders and changes to existing orders using the Order Review Checklist (OGC/D-013) and ensure all job files are complete and in order prior to inspection.
  • Inspect shore tanks, ships’ tanks, pumps, and related lines for cleanliness, perform wall washes when required, and ensure proper handling and takeover of job sites in a clean and organized manner.
  • Measure shore tanks and ships’ tanks to ascertain volumes and weights of cargo according to SGS standard calculation methods.
  • Supervise loading, unloading, and transshipment of chemical products, bulk liquid products, crude, and gas tankers, taking preventive action to avoid contamination and reconciling any variances.
  • Lead and supervise inspection teams as required, ensuring all tasks are carried out according to SGS standard procedures, local procedures, and client instructions.
  • Record all timings and occurrences during loading or unloading, issue NOAD or LOP to Chief Officer or Terminal, and bring to attention any deviations, discrepancies, or contamination to operational staff, terminal, or vessel.
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary tools, instruments, and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Check draft field reports prepared by junior surveyors, organize them, and submit to Business Manager, Assistant Business Manager, or operational staff accurately and timely.
  • Maintain communication with port operations, agents, and terminals regarding vessel arrival, berthing status, and operational updates.
  • Assist in daily operations as required and keep Business Managers/Assistant Business Managers informed of any special circumstances or problems encountered.
  • Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by management while strictly adhering to all safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 to 5 years of relevant experiences in surveying from (Oil, Gas and chemical industry.
