Kunqu Teacher

Job Description:

ITI invites applications for a Kunqu teacher for a 5-week period. The module to be taught is Immersions in Theatre Traditions (Kunqu), in ITI’s Professional Diploma in Intercultural Theatre (Acting) programme. The job will require you to:

• Teach the fundamentals of Kunqu, including its vocal techniques, movement vocabulary, stylised gesture, and performance conventions, and how these can be applied to contemporary acting practices. You will create a presentation by the students at the end of the teaching period
• Guide students in integrating singing, speech, and physical expression characteristic of Kunqu into their acting work.
• Assess the students according to ITI’s assessment and evaluation approach, comprising continual and semester-end assessments; this includes providing written evaluation reports

Job requirements:

• Trained in the tradition of Chinese opera, with specialisation in Kunqu
  • Minimum 10 years of teaching/practice experience in Kunqu
  • Ability to take a holistic approach in relation to the overall curriculum
  • A well-recognised level of quality and distinction in your practice
